Wiley Hailes, my gg-grandfather married Susan Jane Buchanan on 15 Mar 1810 in Elbert County, Georgia. This lady, of course, was my gg-grandmother. Her maiden name was not Buchanan because she had a daughter, also Susan Buchanan, who is named as his wife's daughter in Wiley's will. I hope someone out there can help me find the maiden name of my gg-grandmother, Susan Jane Buchanan. I would like to know who she had married before and when and where. I know divorce was not a ordinary occurance in that time but I would like to know what happened to her first husband, divorce, desertion, dead, what? My great grandfather, Reed C. Hailes, was sherrif of Greene County Georgia in 1866, which puts him in league with the carpet baggers. So be it. I might have done the same thing in his place.
