I am a descendant of James Barber-Penelope through their son Allen Barber. My great-great grandfather, Silas Harrison Barber, was born at or near Watkinsville in 1823, when it was still the county seat of Clarke. I got quite a shock a day or two ago, reading the obits in the Athens newspaper (http://www.onlineathens.com/) and seeing my name! It turns out that David Morgan was 95 and a retired Methodist minister. Whew! Anyway, Allen Barber married Francis H. Crawford in 1819 in Clarke county. Perhaps Harrison was her middle name, don't know for sure. Also don't know Penelope's maiden name. While James Barber was an early member of the Mars Hill Baptist Church, it appears that Allen was not, and neither was Frances. David [email protected] David W.
