Unfortunately the sexton's records for the Oconee Hill Cemetery were burned about 1896, so when the transcription of the grave markers in the old section was published in 1971 by Athens Historical Society, most of the information came from grave markers and data contributed by family members to the editor. I searched both Oconee Hill grave markers transcription & the Athens-Clarke Co. Cemeteries book released by AHS in 1999, but no luck. There are a number of Prices buried in Oconee Hill, but no grave markers for Robert or Ada showed up! Good luck! eve ----- Original Message ----- From: <LeBateman@NetZero.Net> To: <GACLARKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 28, 2002 10:49 PM Subject: [GaClarke] Robert Curtis Loomis Price > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Price > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Yc.2ADE/837 > > Message Board Post: > > I am looking for information on Robert Curtis Loomis PRICE d.b. 1849 Abbeville, Henry County Alabama s/o Dr. Jon Edward PRICE and Mila KIRKLAND. By coincidence, I am just finishing up my family book on this side of the family, and am trying to get it out for Christmas. I am more than happy to share what info. I have. Do you by chance have additional information on the Cicero Maughon/Betty Hill side of the family? I have heard that there is a Cherokee Indian connection on this side of the family but I haven't been able to determine who it is yet.....Do you have birthdates for Betty Hill's siblings? Do you know what Cicero's middle name was "M."? I know that Cicero Maughon was an overseer for the cotton pickers on the Williamson Farm (not slaves because it was after the Civil War). There is a picture of him sitting on a horse named "Sloan" on the Williamson Farm and also pictured are the black laborers picking the cotton. I believe the year is 1893 but I'd have to look it up to make sure. Anything you can tell me about this side would be greatly appreciated.

This past May I visited in Hixburg, Appomattox, Virginia( formerly( Walker's Church).May 12th I visited with the Hix family and they referred me to a Mrs. Glover who was doing research on the area. I did get to meet Mr. Glover and visited for a brief time. He gave me the names of some of the people who were researching families of the Hixburg area. I still have those notes and will have to locate them, but will gladly share the names of those to whom I was referred. It did include the Glover family descendant of that area. This is the area of my ancestry and it is possible that they emigrated with some of the people of who you make inquiry. My ancestors settled in Clarke and Oglethorpe counties originally in the 1805 -1810 era.

Where is her husband buried? LADY WHO STARTED VETERANS' REUNION IS DEAD News has just been received of the death , April 14, of Mrs. Elizabeth Glover at her home, Chickasha, Okla. This will be learned with regret by thousands of friends in Georgia and over the South. Mrs. Glover had attained her 85th year. She spent the most of her long life in Georgia, but for some twenty years past had lived with her daughter, Mrs. A.C. Johnson at Corsicana, Texas. She was the widow of Col Thomas Glover, of the Thirty first Georgia regiment. It was at her suggestion that her husband's regiment gathered in an annual reunion and out of this grew the Confederate Veteran's Reunion. At the Richmond reunion she was accredited as the originator of the movement leading tho these happy historic gathering of the "boys in gray".

Woodville Public School Reunion, Old Woodville School Building, Woodville, Greene County, Georgia Saturday, October 5, 2002, 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Bring a picnic lunch. Some drinks may be provided. Beginning at 9 a.m. with assembly and roll call Lunch at noon, Program at 2:00 p.m. Memorials/Donations of $50.00 or $100.00 for plaques on one of the old lockers to support reunion and restoration project are being solicited. Some restoration is in progress. One room is being restored as a museum of the school and community. The names of those who graduated or attended are being compiled. Stories, oral histories, and relics of the old school days are being sought for compilation and for display in the museum. A booklet about the school has been completed. Copies are available. Many of the faces in the school pictures of the 1930's-1940's that are posted on the picture pages of the Library of Congress Web. page have been identified. Contact person is Col. (RET) Richard R. Cook, 1331 Peachtree Avenue, Woodville, Georgia 30669 1-706-486-4535 He may be on the internet, but I do not have his e-mail address I am cross posting this to several other county lists as you never know who knows who or is related to who. My mother was the valedictorian of a class of four in 1936 when there were only 11 grades. One girl dropped out to get married just before graduation. My mother was the only girl (maybe). At least two others of the three were boys. It was so dry that year that they almost did not have any flowers for decorations. Somebody got some sweet peas from somebody's yard in the community for decorations. My sister in Florida got Col. Cook's permission to post this. Notices were sent by regular mail, but many were returned. The reunion has been held every two years since 1996. Please pass this notice along to anyone who might be interested and post it to any other places on the internet that you think might be appropriate. I got this information about the Greene County, Georgia, Library in Greensboro from my sister in Florida who got it from our first cousin once removed who lives at Union Point, Greene County, Georgia. I am surprised that someone has not posted it to the area county lists by now. The Friends of the Greene County Library group has taken on the project of upgrading the genealogy and local history collection/section in the public library in Greensboro. They are seeking donations of money and research materials. They do have a vertical file of sorts for unpublished material. The "drive" has been started off or aided by a $500.00 donation by one of the Reynolds Plantation people. The library could also use a good microfilm reader/printer from what I understand. They are suppose to have a computer with some programs, but I don't know what or how many. The "round about" story that I got was that the microfilm reader/printer they had a bunch of years ago had broken. It either could not be repaired or parts were no longer available. That was the reason given that a lot of the microfilm had been moved to the Judge of Probate's office in the courthouse because the Judge's office had a better microfilm reader. That may or may not be true. Just what I heard. For more information contact the library. Phone number for the library is 1-706-453-7276.
