Hope this is the right list. I'm looking for any information on Lessie Jeanette Toney. She was born March 25, 1913 in Athens Georgia. She passed away in Birmingham, Alabama, December 4 1991. She married John David Short. He was born somewhere in Georgia, but I believe Athens also. Born March 23,1905 and passed away May 1978 in Birmingham, Alabama. He also served in the military. I have been told his mother was Kathryn Meade. But nothing else. It shows on a CD I have that he was adopted, but that is it. Lessies parents were John Newton Toney 8/4/1877 and died 8/24/1957. Her mother was Isa Olivia Hooper, DOB 12/14/1878 and DOD 5/27/1967. Lessie also had 12 brother's and sister's named RT, Johnny, Andy, Junior P, Helen Inez, Gaynell, Ervin, Emma, Otis,Bertha, Blanch & Henry. Can someone help please? This is the only info I have other that Lessie and JD's children's names were Bill, Sam, and Bobby August. Bobby was born in Athens Georgia also. Thanks, Patti Short [email protected]
About the LDS site: Y'all, the password thing was not there yesterday. I was doing searches (though with no results). I can't even get onto where I was yesterday. They said it is a beta site which means it is a test site. Best thing to do is just sit tight til they are fully operable. Sorry to jump the gun. Carol
Hi. LDS has their much-anticipated beta site online. Go to http://eval.familysearch.com/default.asp Accept all cookies offered and be patient. It may not be easy to get in and get results. They are swamped. You can at least get an idea of what it will be like. At this point, I have no handy tips other than the cookie one. Still trying to get a grip on it myself. After a trial period of about 3 weeks, the site will be taken down and tweaked. Good luck, Carol Middleton
Fred J. FREEMAN 1809-1885 m. Catherine HAMILTON 1812-1881 in Clarke Co. Four of their children are buried in the Freeman Cemetery near Bogart. Would like to correspond with anyone researching this family, especially in relation to the two other children: Joseph b 1840 and Benjamin b 1842.
Searching for the father of Eli LANDERS. Eli is my ggggrandfather. Eli was born abt. 1809 in South Carolina. He married Margaret MCREE Aug. 8, 1833 in Clarke Co. In 1840 census he was living in Walton Co. GA. In 1870 census he was living in Gwinnett Co.GA. Possibility that Eli's father is Matthew Landers. A Matthew Landers is listed in the 1830 census of Clarke Co. By 1840 he is missing. I also have land records of a Richard Landers dated in 1833 and a land record of Benjamin Landers dated 1833. Any information on these people would be appreciated. Thanks, Glenda

If this list includes Madison, Ga., does anyone have a connection to Martha Harriet Elizabeth SARTIN, b. 1832, married Grady Terrel ADDISON of Franklin Co.? Her parents may have been Elisha SARTIN and Sarah WILLIAMS (of Franklin Co.) who lived in Madison. Many thanks! Joan [email protected]

Hi Nancy - Thought you might like to know that the author of "I WANT" is Barbara A. Brown of Nazareth, PA. She's a very talented lady, with an excellent vocabulary, and a wonderful sense of humor. She certainly has a "way with words"! The article was posted in IIGS Newsletter - August 1998 at http://www.iigs.org/newsletter/9808news/genhum.htm.en In fact, there are lots of good genealogy-related articles you would probably enjoy at the IIGS (International Internet Genealogical Society) web site, such as monthly newsletters, etc. Their address is http://iigs.rootsweb.com/ Faye > Date: Wed, 10 Feb 1999 07:26:53 -0500 > From: "Nancy, David & Charles Bedell" <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > > "I WANT" > I want ancestors with names like Rudimentary Montagnard or > Melchizenick > von Steubenhoffmannschild or Spetznatz Giafortoni, not William Brown or > John Hunter or Mary Abbott. > > I want ancestors who could read and write, had their children baptized > in recognized houses of worship, went to school, purchased land, left > detailed wills (naming a huge extended family as legatees), had their > photographs taken once a year -- subsequently putting said pictures in > elaborate isinglass frames annotated with calligraphic inscriptions, and > carved voluble and informative inscriptions in their headstones. > > I want relatives who managed to bury their predecessors in established, > still-extant (and indexed) cemeteries. > >
This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------DE59187A765B0CE740F39A33 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit --------------DE59187A765B0CE740F39A33 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; name="iwant.txt" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="iwant.txt" "I WANT" I want ancestors with names like Rudimentary Montagnard or Melchizenick von Steubenhoffmannschild or Spetznatz Giafortoni, not William Brown or John Hunter or Mary Abbott. I want ancestors who could read and write, had their children baptized in recognized houses of worship, went to school, purchased land, left detailed wills (naming a huge extended family as legatees), had their photographs taken once a year -- subsequently putting said pictures in elaborate isinglass frames annotated with calligraphic inscriptions, and carved voluble and informative inscriptions in their headstones. I want relatives who managed to bury their predecessors in established, still-extant (and indexed) cemeteries. I want family members who wrote memoirs, who enlisted in the military as officers and who served in strategically important (and well documented) skirmishes. I want relatives who served as councilmen, schoolteachers, county clerks and town historians. I want relatives who `religiously' wrote in the family Bible, journaling every little event and detailing the familial relationship of every visitor. In the case of immigrant progenitors, I want them to have arrived only in those years wherein passenger lists were indexed by National Archives, and I want them to have applied for citizenship, and to have done so only in those jurisdictions which have since established indices. I want relatives who were patriotic and clubby, who joined every patrimonial society they could find, who kept diaries, and listed all their addresses, who had paintings made of their houses, and who dated every piece of paper they touched. I want forebears who were wealthy enough to afford, and to keep for generations, the tribal homestead, and who left all the aforementioned pictures and diaries and journals intact in the library. But most of all, I want relatives I can FIND!!! --------------DE59187A765B0CE740F39A33--

Hi everybody. A project is starting up in VAGenWeb that I am very interested in and hope you all are. Migration patterns. There are various pages within USGenWeb that list migration patterns. Linda Russell Lewis, state coordinator of VAGenWeb has called to our attention a neat example, Paula Wiegand's page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~vagiles/migratn.html I would like to do something similar for Clarke Co. GAGenWeb. I would like to have the following info: 1) Name 2) Where, when migrated from (county name / state / date) or born in Clarke Co. and when 3) Where, when migrated to (county name / state / date) 4) The researcher's name with email address (which I would include in hyperlink format for connections) If y'all are interested, email me privately with your info when you can gather it together. I think a Migration pattern page would make a neat addition to the site. Thanks, Carol Middleton
Connell, and Caudle ancestors buried in three graves on the University of GA Campus. The inscriptions read as follows. I hope that someone connects. These are the ancestors of my Reynold's ancestors. IN MEMORY OF MRS. CHARLOTTE CAUDLE BORN MAY 17th 1788 DIED AUGUST 24th 1866 Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God Matt. V 8 A Little while farewell. We soon shall have glad meetings. Yet a little while delayed. Farewell. We hang this garland on the grave where thou art laid. IN LOVING REMEMBRANCE OF ELIZABETH CONNELL WIFE OF G. J. CONNELL BORN SEPTEMBER 5, 1826 DIED JUNE 7, 1888 A precious one from us has gone A voice we love is stilled A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled. Dear Mother sure when thy gentle spirit fled To realms beyond the azure dome With arms outstretched Gods angels said, Welcome to heaven, Home Sweet Home. SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF GREEN J. CONNELL BORN MAY 10, 1830 DIED MAY 4, 1901 AGED 70 years 11 months 25 days BLESSED IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD IS THE DEATH OF HIS SAINTS Now my Reynolds Line: William Neal Reynolds, born in Jasper Co GA December 11, 1860, married Rosena Victoria Connell, September 22, 1878, at Winterville, (Clarke Co) GA. They are my great grandparents. I know nothing of his ancestors or where he came from. Rosena Victoria Connell's mother and father, and her grandmother, are the ones buried on the University of GA Campus. (See Inscriptions above.) William Nixon Reynolds had a number of siblings and relatives in and around Clarke Co GA when he married Rosena Victoria Connell. I know nothing of the Connells. I have reasonably good information on most of the children of William Nixon Reynolds and Rosena Victoria Connell, which includes my grandmother. Franklin Ingram, Raleigh, NC
To all concerned: The book in question is covered by copyright. I will not argue that point. Our benefactors at Rootsweb condone occasional posts re: books for genalogical purposes if they pertain to the county in question. So regarding that, no rules were broken. You have had your say. This subject is closed. Further correspondence on this subject should be taken private. Carol Middleton Listowner
