George W. DESHA and Maria/Mariah/Mary Ann WHITEHEAD of SC were granted a divorce 22 December 1826 by Act of General Assembly of GA -- filed from Superior Court, Clarke Co GA. Possibly WHITEHEAD was spelled WHITTED at that time. deSha may have been spelled deShay. George W. took the older of two sons, Isaac Robert Newton DESHA (b. about 1821 off when he left Maria. Infant son Joseph Franklin DESHA was brought to north Florida by Maria A. Hunter of SC who may have been Maria A. WHITEHEAD DESHA prior to her divorce from George W. .... In which case HUNTER was her name by remarriage. Some family members think Maria A. Whitehead was the daughter of a Captain (ship captain) Ellat or Elliott WHITEHEAD or WHITTED. Does anyone know where exactly I would go to get a copy of this divorce document. Apparently the Clarke Co courthouse doesn't go back that far. Thanks. Parents of George W. DESHA are unknown but he is thought to be related to the DESHA families of PA and KY, TN, LA and TX.
I am searching for ancestors and descendants of William WILLOUGHBY, b. 1759, in either Virginia or Maryland. He and/or his parents are thought to have lived in Culpepper Co/and or Spotsylvania Co Va. He also may have lived in Caroline Co Maryland earlier. William enlisted as a REV soldier in Spotsylvania Co, along with Edlene WILLOUGHBY, who may have been his brother. They served in the Georgia Continental line. William WILLOUGHBY married Jerusalem JONES in Richmond Co Georgia and died in Clark County , Georgia in 1829. Children were James M., Robert, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, William B, Thomas, Agnes, Frank, George, Randle, and David. I descend from Robert WILLOUGHBY, who married Elizabeth MEADOWS in Clark County Georgia in 1820. I have lot's of data on family, but can't locate his parents... Thanks and Merry Christmas Jim Willoughby [email protected]
Hi all, Can anyone tell me if the census records for Clarke Co are online anywhere? I've been unable to find them. Does anyone in this group have access to birth, marriage, land records for Clarke Co? Appreciate any assistance. Cyndi in Baltimore
I have no other data on DUNSTON past James Henry's father was named PHILIP on J.H.'s pension application from Dyer Co.TN @1909-10 . Sure would like to hear from someone!! Thanks, GCoomer
G Comer and Faye: Thanks for posting the info on DUNSTON. From research data from a cousin (not done by me), I have data on Artermessa (Myra) DUNSTON who marr. 16 Nov 1845 Jackson Co., GA to Christopher SAILORS, Jr. b.1807 Jackson Co., GA d.1884. No children listed. Christopher SAILORS,, Jr. was apparently marr. the first time to Nancy ___ and had Elizabth, Charles and Lucinda SAILORS. What, if anything, do you have on the William Dunston of Oglethorpe Co., GA mentioned by Faye? I have done no research at this time on DUNSTON but would appreciate any additional info on this family. SAILORS data can be viewed at my genealogy site: http://back40.bizland.com/related.htm Thanks. Clarke Co. Ga. & Dorothy, My Cynthia McKee married Abner Baker in Clarke Co. Ga. in 1814. I have nothing on Cynthia what so ever. There was a Lewis McKee married Ann Atkenson the same year. I figure Lewis may be Cynthia brother but do not know. I contacted the Clarke Co. Court House with a SASE about 5 weeks ago but did not recieve any reply. Would love to hear about your McKees. Hi, I was just wondering if anyone is still on this list. I haven't received any messages in a while. Thank You, Belinda [email protected] http://www.genealogybin.com
Hi, I was wondering if any one does look ups at the Clarke Co. Court House? I wrote the Court House about 2 months ago for information with a SASE. No reply. My grt. grt grand mother Cynthia McKee (Mckie) married Abner Baker in Clarke Co. on Sept. 19, 1916. I have not been able to find ANY of Cynthia's (Cinthia) ancesters. I found were a Samuel McKee (Mckie) died in Clarke Co. in Nov. of 1810. I was wondering if there was anyone would look for a will or a Probate for Samuel Mckee. I would be willing to pay for your time and for any copy's that were made. Also for any Mckee information in this time frame. Cheers, Sam ©1999 SAM COTTRELL 2013 CHERRY LANE DURANT, OK. 74701
Researchers: I wanted to tell you again about my series of books entitled "THESE MEN WORE GREY". These books not only give you every identifiable Burial location of all the Confederate Soldiers in each county and their wives but also gives you Genealogical information on each man, even his marriage date and his parents marriage records if they could be found. Also included in each book are the complete MILITIA enrollment lists for each county, the Complete SALT RECORDS (which includes wives, widows, families dependent on the labor of a soldier and disabled soldiers) in each county, MUSTER ROLLS from each county including some obscure rolls of Cavalry and Old Men's Homeguard units, PENSION RECORDS, LETTERS HOME (in some volumes), and each book contains some special records found in courthouses never before published. MY WEBPAGE IS "Http://www.hartcom.net/~scv935/grey" Each Volume is featured on a separate page and has a complete listing of what each book contains even a SURNAME INDEX for each volume. ORDER BLANK IS provided there for your convenience. If you have questions please e-mail me. I am currently at work on JACKSON CO. which will be Volume VII of the series. Karen T. Ledford/Toccoa, Ga. Hello all, I am looking for info on these two families. Cornelius Asbury Jackson married Elizabeth Green in September 1815 in Clarke Co. Cornelius was from Virginia. There is some thought that Elizabeth's parents were from Nottinghamshire, England and Cornelius had some dealings with a Sally Green in 1814, so she may be a relative of Elizabeth's. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, I'd be glad to hear from you. Thanks to all. Linda
I've been on the list for a couple of weeks with only three messages. I was beginning to wonder is I were really signed on. Guess this is not a chatty list. My BLAIR ancestors are on the 1870 census in Clarke Co. GA. They are Green BLAIR (age 29), Jane (wife-age 31), Emma-13, Lettice-11, Benjamin-9, and Cora-4. My gggrandfather is Benjamin. They all were born in GA and Green and Lettice worked in a cotton mill. Does anyone have a connection? Denise May [email protected] http://user.icx.net/~dcruey/
I am looking for relatives with the surname of Winfrey.

What a wonderful job Faye has done. Thanks for the work.
Seeking information on Alexander TORRY (1776-1835) and his wife Phalby (Phereby) HORN (c 1788-?) who were married in Hancock County, Georgia c 1802. Alexander TORRY and possibly his father James TORRY drew blanks in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery from Hancock County. Alexander TORRY (or TORREY as it is sometimes spelled) was born in North Carolina. Phalby HORN was the daughter of Jesse HORN (c 1764-?) and Priscilla EADS. John HORN (c 1790-March 11, 1858) was a brother to Phalby HORN. Alexander TORRY and his wife Phalby HORN TORRY later moved to Clarke County, Georgia and then about 1817 moved to Monroe County, Alabama. Phalby HORN TORRY died in Sumter County, Alabama. I would appreciate any information that may be known to subscribers on this list relating to the HORN, TORRY or EADS families. Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.
