    2. jim willoughby
    3. Posted on: Clarke County Biographies Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/ClarkeBios?read=11 Surname: WILLOUGHBY, SMITH, SHANK, LEVERETTE, THOMAS, FULLER ------------------------- William Thomas Willoughby was born in Coweta County, Georgia in 1851. He was the son of James and Sarah Chapman Willoughby. After the Civil War, members of James Willoughbys' family moved to Texas. As the train was leaving the station for Texas, William ran away from the train station. After running away from the train station, William Thomas Willoughby went to Lafayette, Alabama. He remained in Lafayette for about two years. Family legend has it that he lived with a Jeff Tucker and worked as a partner in the business of Tucker-Willingham. It is not known if this is the Tucker family that James Willoughby, Williams’ father married into (Elizabeth Tucker, daughter of John Tucker in Milltown, Alabama,) after returning from Texas. It is highly possible and likely. Family members also say that he lived with a Sorrell family for a short period. The Willoughby and Sorrell families knew each other as early as the late 1700s in Virginia. A Sorrell family lived in Oglethorpe County, Georgia prior to moving to Alabama. Oglethorpe County is adjacent to Clark County, where the Willoughby family comes. It is quite likely that they knew each other in North Georgia as well. William met his first wife Caroline A. Smith, daughter of William "West" Goodrich SMITH, in Chambers County, Alabama, in 1872. They had one child, name unknown, who died at birth. Caroline, along with quite a number of unmarked children’s graves is Located in the SMITH Cemetery. Caroline also died during the first year of marriage and William married her sister, Josephine (Parrie) Lee SMITH, in 1875. The middle name of my Grandfather, Rhodes Goodrich Willoughby, gets its’ origin from West Goodrich SMITH. William Thomas WILLOUGHBY and Josephine Parrie Lee SMITH had five children. Three of the children died as infants. Surviving were two sons, my grandfather, Rhodes Goodrich WILLOUGHBY, and his brother, Seaborn Gideon WILLOUGHBY. W.T. moved to Dadeville, Alabama in 1903. Seaborn Gideon ran a general store in Dadeville, Alabama. Gids’ store and house are still standing. A wrought iron worker is operating the store, and the house is vacant. Parrie died in 1882 and William married a third time 14 years later. On April 16, 1896, William married Ella Estelle MORGAN. There were three children of this marriage; i. Dewie, 4 March 1899 ii. Winnie Heflin, 1 December, 1901 iii. John Gaines, 1 October 1905 William Thomas Willoughby died on 10 September 1923. He is buried in the Dadeville, Alabama City Cemetery, Tallapoosa County. 1. [GACLARKE] Jesse Jones and Rebecca Miller married 1820 in Clarke County
    2. Anne W. Westbrook
    3. Jesse Jones (b. circa 1788 in Ga.) and Rebecca Miller were issued a marriage license Sept. 30, 1820 by John H. Lowe and their marriage ceremony was performed the next day by William C. Dobbins. This was in the 222nd general militia district, "Oates", then "Stewart". They were still in Clarke in 1828 when their son Harrison was born. His 1906 application for a CSA pension says he was born in Clarke. Their other sons were Jesse, Jr.; Paschal, Burton and Robert (Bob). Their daughter was Martha. By 1831 Jesse shows up on the Fayette county tax rolls. Rebecca apparently died before the 1850 census. In 1850 Jesse's household consists of himself, Jesse, Jr. age 31, Robert age 19. Martha age 3 and James age 1. I assume the children are offspring of Jesse, Jr. and that both Jesses are widowers. In 1860 Jesse is living alone in household # 284. Does anyone have information as to who the parents of Jesse and Rebecca were? I would like to correspond with any descendants. Can anyone locate general militia district 222 and explain the meaning of 'Oates" and "Stewart"? Anne Westbrook

    3. Posted on: Clarke County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Clarke?read=443 Surname: McDonald, McDaniel, Armour, Langley, Wiley ------------------------- You may want to check Jackson County as well as Clarke County on the Bradley family. My family (McDonald/McDaniel) appears to be close to the Bradley family (geographically and also socially), and their properties were mainly in Jackson county but some were in Clarke County, and, after the lotteries, they owned in Early county also, but this was in the early 1800s so I can't help you get back that far as I have not traced the Bradleys. You might find someone on the Jackson County site who has. Once you get that far back I can give you some information about where they lived and all. dan

    2. William G. Prather
    3. Hi Karen, I have done some limited research on the PRATER family that you mentioned. Here is what I have: Francis C. PRATER married Ann C. KENNEY on April 21, 1853 in Clarke County, Georgia. They had two children, William Lucas, born April 18, 1854 and Hugh N., born in 1856. William Lucas married Susan Victoria KENNEY on November 8, 1874 in Clarke County. Hugh married Mamie SMITH. Ann PRATER was enumerated in the 1860 Clarke County census along with William and Hugh. Francis PRATER was NOT enumerated in the 1860 census or any subsequent census. I have assumed that he died after 1856 and before 1860. I did not find a Francis C. PRATER in the "Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia, 1861 - 1865. I would appreciate any additional info that you might receive in regards to this family.
