    1. [GACLARKE] Census Lookup Request
    2. Hello, I am new to the list and need help in locating a Martha Ann McDonald who married a S.J. Linam in 1854 in Wilcox Co., AL. I find them in Monroe Co., Al in the 1860 census; but cannot find them in 1870 census recordsin AL. She was born in GA., I do not know where in GA. she was born. I can find do record of death for either of them. He fought in the civil war, company A, 4th Alabama Cal ( Russell's ) and was wounded Aug. 1, 1864 at Jonesburough, GA. His service records do not give any information on who his parents were. His birth place was listed as SC on census records. I find him with another wife in 1880 census in Conecuh Co.,AL. and also on 1900 Conecuh Co.,AL with yet another wife. I will really appreciate any help anyone may have to offer me. I thought since Martha was born in GA. maybe she went back to some family there while he was in the war and maybe died there. In the 1880 Conecuh Co, AL. census I find their oldest child listed with three small children. Her name was Evelina. Thank you, Evelyn [email protected]

L. Hull, 1906, p. 16 "The late Mrs. HODGSON's house, below the carriage shops, was first the home of Sterling LANE, son of old Jonathan LANE, one of the first white men living west of the Oconee River. Sterling LANE was a young man of fine promise. He read law with Mr. UPSON, of Lexington, and was admitted to the bar, but preferred commerce to the law and after building a home and a prosperous business died in 1820 of typhus fever, universally regretted. His father planted the large cedars in the yard when they were mere switches." William LUMPKIN bought Sterling LANE'S house. Also, according to Hull's Annals of Athens, Sterling LANE designed the seal for the University of Georgia. Theophilus Sterling LANE was the son of Jonathan LANE and a grandson of Jesse LANE and Winnifred AYCOCK LANE. My g-g-grandfather, Theophilus S. LUCKIE, was named after T. S. Lane. Glenn B. RAY

    1. [GACLARKE] 1797/99 - 1802 TAX DIGEST FOR JACKSON COUNTY, GEORGIA, Vol. 1 - For Sale
    2. Belinda & Dave Savadge
    3. I have just transcribed and published the 1797/99 & 1802 Tax Digest for Jackson County, Georgia. This book is the transcriptions for the first Tax Digest book in the Jackson County, Georgia Probate Court Office. It has what could be found of the 1797, 1799 and all of the 1802 Tax Digest, 1800 & 1801 are missing and not in the Courthouse. This book contains approx. 949 surnames and over 1200 individuals. The Tax Digest list the Tax Payers Name, the Quality of Land, To Whom the Land was Granted, which County the Land was in, the Water Way, Whose Land it Joined, Number of Slaves they owned, Town Lots they owned, Stock in Trade, the Tax they paid and if they only paid a Poll Tax. In some cases it list the Agent, Administrator, or Guardian who was representing the tax payer. Tax Payers paid taxes in the county they resided in, so this books also list if they owned land in a different county and also includes the above information on it. Jackson County was formed from Franklin County in 1796. The following counties were formed from part of Jackson County: Banks (1858), Barrow (1914), Clarke (1801), Gwinnett (1818), Hall (1818), Madison (1811), and Oglethorpe. 8 1/2" x 11", sftbnd, 374 pages, fully indexed. 3. Hello I have just discovered my great great grandmother's name was Ann Landon and she had a brother named Benjamin Landon. Ann lists in her adult years that she was born in GA, but we have no idea of the parents of Ann and Benjamin. In 1850, they were living in the household of Charles and Mary Smith Broach who had moved to AR from GA. They had lived in Clarke County. Does anyone have census or marriage records for the 1830-50 period and willing to do a census check and marriage check for LANDON in Clarke County? Thank you Shirley
