I have happened upon several websites that have listed Miniard Gipson as living in Clarke Co. in the early 1800's. I am trying to find out what information has led to this determination. I have seen Miniard on census records in Gilmer Co. and Union Co. Ga in 1840 and 1850. He is also listed in Burke Co. NC in (I believe) the year of 1830. If anyone has information that connects him to Clarke Co. please contact me.

Posted on: Clarke County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Clarke/568 Surname: Goodwin, Sawyer, Sayers, Sawers ------------------------- Asa GOODWIN married Margaret SAWYER (SAWYERS, SAWERS, SAYERS) on Oct 20 1808 in Clarke County, GA, Margaret was listed as Peggy on the marriage license. Margaret may have been a full blooded Indian. Recent data indicates Asa may have been born in North Carolina, and may have a brother named Amos who went to Kentucky. Asa & Margaret had a son named Asa Amos, birth date uncertain, but probably between 1808 and 1820. I have six other children listed for them. Asa/Margaret are my 7th generation ancestors. I am seeking any information about Asa and Margaret, and their ancestors and descendants. Will gladly exchange results of my Goodwin research. Asa and Margaret are listed in "First Families of Henry County Georgia," but without significant data.

Thank you, David, for posting about Carol. I'm so very sorry ... we had written back & forth many times early in 1999 and corresponded about various lines, and the Clarke Co. website. In fact, as we lost touch, I had inquired of several people wondering where she went. Even though we seldom meet in person all the many people we correspond with on genealogy, we still grow fond of them and I'll certainly miss Carol. She was certainly a very talented and intelligent lady! I am attempting to discover what the middle name of Andrew D. Clinard, Jr. was, who died in Floyd Co, GA in 1887. He was a hotel keeper who moved his profession from Athens, GA to Rome, GA in the early 1880s. He was buried at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, in Rome. He married Mary Wharton in Rutherford Co, TN in 1858, and a daughter was born in TN. Is there anyone in the local area of Clarke County who can check around and find out what the "D" in Andrew's middle name stood for? Below are exepts of various facts that I have uncovered about him. Many of the comments were found in his personal letters included in the "L.N. Clinard" collection in the state archives in Raliegh, NC. The letters were wrote to his parents, Andrew D. Clinard, Sr and Lydia, in NC. Any help finding out what the "D" stood for is appreciated very much. 3/25/1857-- leaves North Carolina (for TN?). I need some geographical help in Clarke Co., please. Im trying to determine whether or not John TURNER, Sr., who bought 250 acres on Bear Creek in the county in 1829, might be related to my husbands gt.gt.grandfather, John B. TURNER, who bought 204 acres on McNutt Creek in 1861. I have a map of Clarke Co. and have found McNutt Creeka very long creek! The location of the TURNER place, as it was referred to in an 1896 deed in which John B.s son, John E., was selling 200 acres to his brother-in-law, Samuel BAILEY, is described as being in Buncomb District near the town of Bogart and lying in the Counties of Oconee and Clarke. Im not absolutely sure this is the same land as the 204 acres bought by his father, but John E.s widowed mother was living on it in 1896. It sounds like the land John B. left in trust for his wife and children. Can anyone tell me where on the map to look for Bear Creek? If Bear Creek and McNutt Creek are on opposite sides of the county, I might decide there was probably no relation between the two TURNER families. Barbara Dooley Cullowhee, NC
Peter Bankston, d 1804 in Clarke Co. Ga, was married to Pricilla ?. I have a copy of the original administration of Peter's estate, naming Nimrod Taylor as one of the legatees. Nimrod's wife, Judith Bankston, had died in 1803 in Wilkes Co. Ga., thus Nimrod was inheriting through his dead wife for their heirs. I need a legal document naming Nimrod and Judith i.e. sale of property, etc. Only have information from family sources. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Gail Bunch
