Posted on: Clarke County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Clarke/611 Surname: Jackson ------------------------- Thanks for your response. I don't believe that our anscestors connect, at least directly, so I do not have any information for you. Jackson, of course, is such a common name that even with the first name of John, it is difficult to definitively conclude that the John Jackson of Clarke County is my (or your) J.J. If your John had siblings named James, Nancy or Elizabeth, there might be a better chance, although I noticed that your John would have had to be born before 1745 to be Ambrose's son. However, there is the possibility that my John B. was the son or grandson of your John. Although this line of research is probably a dead end, I would appreciate your input if you come across new information. I'll do the same. BTW, I have not been able to get further back than John B. who was born in the 1770s.

Passports were issued by Georgia Governors to those wishing to travel through Indian lands from 1785-1820. These passports are abstracted in two volumes: 1. "Passports of southeastern pioneers, 1770-1823 : Indian, Spanish, and other land passports for Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Mississippi, Virginia, North and South Carolina" by Dorothy Williams Potter. 2. Posted on: Clarke County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Clarke/592 Surname: McDonald, McDaniel ------------------------- Wayne, this is probably a line related to my line, as we are probably tied in to Alexander McDonald who was in Clarke County and Jackson County in the late 1700s and early 1800s, and suspect that a John McDonald was father to my James McDonald, also in these counties at that time period. Still trying to get a handle on this. The Pike Co. MS is also a good bet as my ggrandfather practice medicine in that area just after the Civil War. I have quite a bit of circumstantial evidence tying my James into the Daniel McDonald in SC from about 1720s on, but it is circumstantial. We can correspond on this if you'd like, to see if we can link these.

I believe there is one book that is a collection of them, but can't tell you anything about it (not even the title). If anyone knows where to access them, please post the reference information to the list so others can find them as well. I believe the book dealt with Tennessee, not Jackson County. Thanks, Dan

I saw some Ramseys on the tax rolls there in the early 1800s and some of my ancestors cross counties quite a bit. Dan McDonald
Posted on: Clarke County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Clarke/576 Surname: Jones ------------------------- Robert A. Jones was in Clarke Co. when he drew land in Fayette Co. in the 1821 land lottery. His son Jesse was born 1788 in GA (prior to the establishment of Clarke). If they were on the same property then, they would have been living in Franklin Co. one of the original counties established in 1777. Does anyone have access to records which would show when and how Robert Jones acquired land in Franklin or Jackson or Clarke? Also when and to whom he disposed of land in Clarke Co.? His son Jesse married in Clarke in 1820 and was still there in and after 1828. In 1830in Clarke Co., Robert executed a deed to Jesse conveying the Fayette Co. land to Jesse. Jesse seems to have moved to Fayette at that time. A son was bnorn in Clarke in 1828 and another son was born in Fayette in 1830.
