December 13, 1880, in Clarke County, Georgia, to Louisa/Laura Chancey. Ed Toole, son of Manning Toole and Mary D. Greene, was listed with his parents on the 1880 census of Oconee County, Georgia. They are suppose to have reared a family in and around Watkinsville and Athens. He may have been farming in the area, probably as a sharecropper, around 1915-1917. He may have died around 1925. Family stories relate that either he or one of his sons was shot and killed in a store robbery about 1911. That there was a trial and the murderers/robers only received a seven year sentence. I am posting the following for the author of a new genealogy book. These are records that have not been available before now. Henderson Co.,NC was formed in 1838, and in 1861 Transylvania Co., NC was created out of Henderson Co., NC. Estate records, or probate records, were generated when a person died without a will. The court settled the deceased estate and in doing so generated a tremendous amount of documentation. These documents usually listed the widow/widower, heirs (children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters), sometimes where the heirs lived, names of slaves who were sold to settle the estate, dower issues, inventories and accounts. In fact, estate records give much more information than a will. I have published an abstract of these records. There are over 750 su r names listed and over 5000 names. I know that there are two Elizabeth Whiteheads on the page. The one you sited and ours, with Sandford and Rebecca as children.
There are 78 listings for Harper in the index. For Sharrad and var. spellings there are 11. Sharrard 135, 209 Sherrard 114 Sherwood 210 Capt Sherwood 125, 128, 203-207 Ensign Sherwood 124, 126, 202 Lt. Sherwood 202 Basicly these names are listed in the Clark County Militia between 1818 and 1822. My Kinney's (Jonathan) are also listed but it dosen't provide any clue as to who his family (parents) were either. Sam, could you please check for this family in the book - "Records of Clarke County, Georgia, 1801-1892", compiled by Robert Scott Davis. (during period 1820's) - Sherrod (or Sharrard or Sherwood) Harper (His family would probably be the only Harper's there in 1820's other than Joseph Malone Harper, and the children of George Harper.) I was wondering if anyone had access to the book, "Records of Clarke County, Georgia, 1801-1892", compiled by Robert Scott Davis. I am interested in a specific entry on page 133. Poor School Families- 1823, children ages 8-16 Elizabeth Whitehead (widow)- Rawson, Williamson, Leuteshia, Berry, John I neglected to gather more details on this entry other than the page and book title. What I am trying to do is to examine the original record that Mr. Davis cites. I am suspicious that the name Rawson is incorrect and could be Ransom.
