John, At the inception of Cherokee County during the Gold Lottery, parcels of land were allocated in land lots of 40 acre tracts. It is possible to trace the ownership of the land . I don't have access at home to the land records (the Canton Library has a set, so it isn't required that you search at the County Courthouse), but maybe someone on line does. I have traced the land my church now owns through the lottery and subsequent owners. Not all Fortunate Drawers in the Lottery took possession of the land. One drawer for land for my church lived in South Georgia and I don't have any evidence he ever occupied it. This is possibly the explanation of the 40 acre tract. Possibly your ancestor won the land in the lottery and paid taxes without ever moving. I do own the lottery book listing Fortunate Drawers of the Gold lottery and will look up your Daniels.
