Hi, Cathryn, I read your information with interest. I don't see a close connection--or any, at this time, but I'll pass along some info I've found. There is an obituary for Leonidas J. Johnson of Jackson County, Ga., who died June 12, 1909. Here is a sentence from that obituary, which was posted by Kris Johnson on Genealogy.com. She listed the obituary as having come from the Jackson Herald, July 22, 1909. "John F. Johnson, the father, was born in 1799. He was a native of North Carolina, migrated to Georgia when quite a boy. He died in 1862. There was born to bless their union eight boys and two girls - Jessie, William, George, John, Lee J., Jerry, Richard, James M., Elizabeth, and Sarah Ann - all of whom are dead except J.M. Johnson." The ages, dates and various other information fit well with George T., my gggrandfather, but this is not actual proof that John F. was his father. The whole obituary, of course was much longer--a Masonic tribute. Here is a list of the children of George T. and his wives as found in the 1870 census for Cherokee County: Federal census of Cherokee County, Ga., 1870, Woodstock, the 890th district. HH#8/8, enumerated the 27th? day of June, 1870, by Isaac Ingram; Post office, Woodstock Johnson, George 48 M W Farm labor born Ga. $400 personal property, citizen U.S. Nancy A. 34 F W Housekeeping born Ga. John D. 19 M W Farm labor born Ga. William W. 16 M W Farm labor born Ga. George F. 12 M W Farm labor born Ga. Sarah E. 11 F W At home born Ga. Mary A. 9 F W Susan A. 7 F W Olive E. 5 F W Dora A. 3 F W James F. 1/12 M W At the time of this census, Mary Emmaline Lay Johnson would have been dead for twelve years, she having died February 8, 1858. Therefore, the younger children in this listing would have been those of George T.'s second wife, Nancy A. Daniels. The child George F. could have been her first child or Mary Emmaline's last. Ollie Johnson Adams' letter indicates that George Franklin was the son of Mary Emmaline Lay Johnson. Since George F. was her father, the information is surely correct. There is an age discrepancy between the 6 years old he was stated to be in 1860 and the 12 years old he was listed as in 1870. John D. was John David, my great-grandfather. {This was pasted from Family Tree Maker and wanted to rearrange itself, so I hope it comes across all right. For some reason my email wants to have 20-mile-long lines tonight, so I'm having to make deliberate line breaks.} If any of this helps or you would like more info, I have pretty much--census, deed copies, etc. If you see any connection, let me know.
