Researching the Tucker/Peek/Maddox families of Cherokee Co. GA. Willis Cass Tucker, b1800 in SC d1856 Cherokee Co. GA, removed his family to Cherokee Co. GA c1840. Willis Cass Tucker and his wife, Chloe Ann Bryan(t), are most likely buried at Boiling Springs Baptist Cemetery near Alpharetta, GA. One of their sons, Samuel Lewis Tucker b1836 in Spartanburg Co. SC d Nov 1879 in Blount Co. AL, married Rachel Peek May 04, 1854 in Cherokee Co. GA. Rachel Peek Tucker was a daughter of Lindsey Peek and Esther Rebecca Maddox and a granddaughter of Solomon Walker Peek. Lindsey Peek appears to have been born in Hall or Franklin Co. GA and appears to have died 1889 in Floyd Co. GA. Any correspondence would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael Tucker ==== GACHEROK Mailing List ==== GACHEROK-L mailing list archives. I have an Adeline E. Maddox, born in January 1849 who was living with the George Washington McCollum and Margaret R. Thompson McCollum family until her marriage to John A. Gunter on January 2, 1868. I've never been able to figure out a McCollum-Maddox connection, but the McCollums were in Cherokee County by the 1840 census. George was born about 1810 in the Old Pendleton District of South Carolina. When George died in the mid-1850s the administrators of his estate were James A. Maddox and George W. Cook. George's wife, Margaret, lived out her life with Adeline and her husband, John Gunter. Any possible link to your Maddoxes? W. Hi Wally, I too have tried to figure out who Adeline Maddox parents were. I know that Margaret McCollum was her aunt (she also had another aunt living in Cherokee County, Elizabeth Thompson McCanless, who was Margaret' sister) they must have been her mother's sisters. Adeline also had a sister Sophronia. I believe that her father was James Maddox but have no idea who her mother was. I have been researching the Gunter family of Cherokee Co. All of the Gunters came from Pickens Co. S.C. Other surnames are MAYFIELD, DANIEL, HAMMETT, HUGHES.
