    1. Re: [GACHEROK-L] Civil War Monuments
    2. I was wondering if a person needs to get the actual Civil War records from the National Archives to have a monument placed on a grave of an ancestor? I have James W Webb who I have found records on but do not have the ones from the National Archives. Since he was my great grandfather I would love to have a monument placed on his grave. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Mary

    3. My gr grandfather was John C. Rice. My Aunt did the paperwork, but I had to provide her with the Pension Application and the information from the National Archives. The Pension Application was not done in Cherokee Co, but in AR, where he lived until he died in 1937. I found out about the War Monument through someone who belonged to the Sons of Confederate Veterans. If you contact the local chapter in the County where you have an ancestor buried, I am sure they will help you get started.
