    2. Acworth is in Northern Cobb county. Near Bartow and Cherokee county lines.

    3. If you contact a local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in the county where you think your ancestor is buried, they may be able to help you. There is paperwork that a family has to fill out on a veteran who does not have a Civil War Monument. The Department of the Army will place them if you know where the veteran is buried. Someone in one of these departments should have the application, if it was filled out. My Aunt filled one out for our ancestor. The Sons of the Confederacy actually did a ceremony to place the stone. Our ancestor was from Cherokee Co, but he drew his Veterans benefits in AR and is buried there.

    3. My guess is Cobb County as well. Acworth's current-day zip codes extend into Paulding and Cherokee and maybe Bartow counties, but I doubt the area considered to be Acworth in the late 1800s extended beyond Cobb's borders. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ivaleine Kay Cooper" <ikcooper@pacbell.net> To: <GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2006 10:51 PM Subject: Re: [GACHEROK-L] Civil War Monuments > If you contact a local chapter of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in the > county where you think your ancestor is buried, they may be able to help > you.
