Chris, you are great for offering you time to help us! I am sure you will have lots of requests. My request is probably in the court records of abt 1850-1860. William Wood who is in the 1850 Cherokee County, GA Census with his wife Elizabeth and family. Elizabeth is Elizabeth Norwood who married William Wood in 1841, a widow with two Norwood children living with the Wood family in 1850. Our family story says that William was killed by a stepson, probably Norwood??? after 1850. Are there any records about this murder? Are there newspaper reports? Where would the son be imprisoned? He was held in jail/prison until after the Civil War, 1865 or so and then released. Can you help me with this, please? Someone at the local historical society may be able to help also. If you can give me any phone #'s or contact people to help with my research when I come to Cherokee Co in late March or April, this would be very helpful. I live in Woodstock, GA in Cherokee County and I have just recently started doing research on my family lines in other parts of the country. I know that some of you live far away and If any of you have a need for someone to survey a cemetery, verify a tombstone, take photos, etc. just let me know. I am a novice researcher, so I don't know if I can help in that regard, but I am willing to do some legwork on the weekends and in my spare time if you need it. -Chris Bishop ==== GACHEROK Mailing List ==== GACHEROK-L mailing list archives.
