Martha, I am searching for Augustus WILLIAMS, who married Sarah Whiteside LEDBETTER, daughter of Johnson LEDBETTER. I am also looking for a daughter of Augustus WILLIAMS, Sarah, who married Frank Fox DOOLEY/DOOLY. My information says Augustus WILLIAMS, his wife Sarah WILLIAMS, and their daughter Sarah DOOLEY and her husband, Frank Fox DOOLEY, are all buried at Shiloh Methodist Cemetery in Cherokee County, GA. I am related to the WILLIAMS family, the LEDBETTER family, and to the DOOLEY/DOOLY family in Cherokee Co., in Lumpkin Co., in Dawson Co., and in Forsyth Co., GA. I see your name is LEDBETTER. Flora, My Williams family is as follows: Richard Williams, born 1781, married Lucy Bogas in 1803-04. His son Newton Keen Williams, born 1804 married Sarah Jones. Richard is from Surry Co., NC, and was a Quaker. He was disowned in 1804 for marrying contrary to the discipline. I find that they came from Blount County, TN, to Union County, GA. Newton and Sarah, his second wife then came to Cherokee County. They are both buried in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery. Newton and his first wife, Jane Coope, had three sons and Newton and Sarah Jones had three sons. All six sons came with him to Georgia. They are as follows: Francis Marion, who eventually went to Lumpkin County, McKindre C., who went bact to TN, Lorenzy Licurgus remained in Cherokee County, Asbury Nelson went to old Milton County, GA, Dewitt Sanford went to Iuka, Mississippi, and William Penn went to Boaz, AL. Dewitt Sanford Williams is my great grandfather. He married Martha Jane Beard from Union and Cherokee County. It seems that the Beards, Williams and Gurleys moved together from Union County to Cherokee County. Since Richard was a Quaker, I can trace the family back to 1665, through the Quaker records. I find Joseph Williams, born 1665, in Baltimore, MD. As for the Ledbetter line, I married a Ledbetter from Mississippi. My maiden name is Williams. I have traced this line from MS to AL to Daniel Ledbetter born abt. 1792, in GA, and then to Joel born in SC, and then to Rev. Henry born 1721, in VA. If any of this helps, I will be glad to send more details. I'm sure there is bound to be some connection to these folks.
