You've probably seen this census information and dismissed it, but it's worth another look: June 7, 1860, Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia Page (looks like) 24 Household 171, family 171 C. Holbrook, farmer, 59, born in GA Sarah, 46, born in GA Mary, 19, born in GA Columbus, 16, born in GA Frances, (age is indexed as 12, but handwriting comparison sure looks like 17, there's no loop that is characteristic of the other 2s on the page) If she is 17, this is very possibly your Frances. In 1850 this same family was in Forsyth County and Frances was shown as age 5: August 10, 1850, 31st District, Forsyth County Household 138, family 138 C. Holbrook, 49, farmer, born in GA Sarah, 44, born in GA William, 18, born in GA Russell, 16, born in GA Harriet, 15, born in GA Robt, 12, born in GA Mary, 10, born in GA Columbus, 8, born in GA Frances, 5, born in GA W. The first documentation I have for Joshua C. ELLIS is the 1837 entry in the Forsyth County GA marriage book recording his marriage to Sarah KELLY. I located what I believe to be the family in the 1840 US Census for Cherokee County, GA. The 1850 US Census of Forsyth County included Joshua, Sarah and the Children. The family moved to Northwest AR before 1860 Joshua, Sarah and their children: William J., Hiram Kelly, Joshua Thomas, Mary Ann, James C. Adeline, & Sarah were recorded in the 1860 Census of Benton County AR. The 1870 Census of Benton County records a John ELLIS, his wife Sarah, and daughters Addie & Sarah. The family sold the Benton County Land moving to Madison county prior to the 1880 Census. Joshua died in 1880. Sarah KELLY's parents ( Hiram KELLY & Elizabeth McGEE) were married in BURKE County NC. Elizabeth is believed to be the daughter of Patrick Stewart McGEE & Nancy SPEAR. Hiram's parents have not been Identified. Hiram and Elizabeth moved their family from Burke county NC to Habersham County GA between 1820 &1830. They were in Cherokee County in 1840. Elizabeth died about 1845 & Hiram's 2nd marriage to Malinda Alderson (16 July 1845) is recorded ina Lumpkin County Marriage book. Hiram and Malinda and three daughters were in Forsyth County in 1850 and Madison county AR in 1860. I have not been able to discover Joshua's ancestors. The census data indicates Joshua was born in North Carolina. I am interested in information about the William ELLIS recorded n the 1840 Census of Cherokee County GA. That family included a male old enough to be Joshua's father, and there is also a record of a land exchange between Joshua and William . The ELLIS/KELLY descendants have a reunion scheduled 24 June in AR. We have located descendants in MA, MO, CA. TX, AR, CO, OK, ID & KS and hope many will attend the reunion. The problem is identifying Sarah (KELLY) & Joshua ELLIS' ancestors. Jonelle ELLIS Russell email: ljrussell@earthlink.net
I copied this from a message posted by Robert W. King on one of the list I receive. If you are searching for military graves or other veterans information you may find this site and the links from it helpful. Jo Russell Hi folks! The V.A. has gone on line with info on where veterans are buried, including Arlington (since 1999) and other National Cemeteries. Approximately 80,000 names are currently on file. They hope to also include the locations of deceased military personnel where grave markers were ordered in the future. The site is www.cem.va.gov

I am trying to find out about Frances Jane Smith, b. South Carolina, probably Anderson Co. abt. 1848. Her parents were Samuel D. and Sarah Smith. She was in the 1850 census with her parents in Anderson Co., SC and then the 1860 census in Cherokee Co., Georgia. Her parents then moved to Indiana but she is not with them. I've lost her between Georgia and Indiana. She may have married, died or moved elsewhere. If anyone has any info on Frances Jane, I'd appreciate you getting in touch with me. Thank you, Pam North Carolina

He had a daughter Mary Esther "Polly" who married my 5th great uncle Joseph Judson Byers. He had a son Abraham who married Elizabeth Blythe and had several children, one of whom was a James. Abraham died in Woodstock GA Dec 24, 1871. James was born in Buncombe Co NC 1805 and died reportedly in Cherokee Co AL. (I don't know this for fact). James who died in Habersham may have had other children. Does any of this ring bells for you? >>>>Also Littleberry Holcomb's family, my gr.gr. grandmother Martha Holcombe is his daughter. She married Lewis Johnson in 1820, probably in Greenville, SC. At the moment I'm especially interested in information on Martha and Lewis's son Harvey C. Johnson. b. Nov. 6 1821. He married Ellen Cicely (Sisely) King and in 1850 they are in Henderson Co. NC, not located in 1860 yet, 1870 and 1880 they are in Cherokee Co. Ga. What does the C in Harvey's name stand for and when and where did he die? Your Harvey C is interesting in that my Byers family also connects to Johnsons. Amy/Anna Byers married Samuel Lovelace in Spartanburg Co SC. Their son Barton married Isabella Johnson in Pendleton Co SC. These Johnsons, I have finally determined, were from VA via Wilkes Co NC then to SC. Greenville Co SC, Henderson Co NC and Cherokee and Pickens Co GA are all the places where these families lived in those time frames you mention. I have some Lewises and Harveys in my Johnsons, but can't connect with yours yet. Can you send me some more info on your families? Also Holcombs. I have Holcombs married into Byers, but not enough info to make a connection. Lou Ann
An obituary for "Grannie" Mary Elizabeth Jones who died May 3, 1927 indicates that she was the mother of Dora Spence. Mary Elizabeth Jones was the daughter of Richard Evans. She was born April 14, 1859. She was buried at Sharp Mountain "beside her husband." Shirley Morris' Cherokee County Cemetery book does not list a Mary Elizabeth Jones in that cemetery, but there are Joneses and Evanses. W. I can not find my grate grand mothers surname or find out on the death records. Before, I could get to the death records, I found more Spence , She married John Marrion Spence , He had a second wife. My father found her grave about a year ago, he said he never noticed it was on what we think was the wrong side today. On it was Dora Spence, not surname. I was told by the only family that her name was either Valgora? or something Dora maby Jones Spence . She died buried in Ballground Ga. Cherokee county. Born 1881, died 1916. The earliest grave in the records I could find Alfred Spence Born 10-3--1812 married Sarah Spence 2-23-1812.
