    3. Not researching this line, but the 1880 census transcription (free and online) at the LDS website, http://www.familysearch.org has this family enumerated in 1880 Cherokee County, Hickory Flat Township. It lists children John, age 4; Margaret, age 2, and Jefferson (born Dec 1879), with their apparent parents, ANDERSON and Sarah Martin, aged 23 and 21 respectively. The Cherokee County, Georgia, USGenWeb site has early Cherokee County marriages online and checking there you will find: Anderson A. Martin married Sarah J. Burns - June 22, 1874 - Book E, page 144. As for where Sarah Burns Martin is buried, I don't know, but you might try searching the Cherokee County websites. Tons of information has been posted there and one of their children is shown as buried in the historic Hickory Flat cemetery in Cherokee County. Good luck! Kilby Who’s In France Taylor County friends of Dr. Ben Kilby, who is now with Uncle Sam’s boys and helping them to aid our brave allies overseas, will read with interest the following letter from him which appeared in the Cherokee Advance, of Canton, Ga., last week. Dr. Kilby was engaged in business in Reynolds for several years and made many warm friends who will be delighted to know that he is well and gladly doing his “bit” in the great struggle for democracy. ------------------------ The Advance is in receipt of the following letter from Ben Kilby, who is now somewhere in France. The letter was written to Edgar Kilby here, however, we have secured permission to use same this week. From the tone of Ben’s letter, he seems to be well satisfied with his duties in France and is no doubt by now well up in the thick of the fighting. The letter is as follows: Somewhere in France March 1, 1918 Dear Edgar: Your packs of cigarettes have been received. The one you sent Xmas, was received last week and two more received this week and you just can’t imagine how much they were appreciated and want to thank you a thousand times for them, and think you awfully sweet and nice sending. We have an awfully hard time getting them – of course the Y.M.C.A. has them some time, but then you are only allowed to buy one pack. If it wasn’t for the Y.M.C.A., don’t know what we boys would do. The people in the good old U.S.A. can’t realize what help the Y.M.C.A. is to these boys “OVER HERE” – so if you can speak a good word at any time for the “Y” do it. Have had awful luck this week about receiving mail. Your two packs of cigarettes, a letter from Mat Annie, L. Lucile, Agnes Coggins, Johnnie B. Hill, and you can’t imagine how much one word is appreciated “over here” – When mail call is blown everybody breaks their neck to be first, if only you could see one mail call, then you would write me at least once a week, of course I know you never did write much and that you haven’t much spare time, but when you have please sit down and write just a few words, just enough to let me know you and yours are all well. Only wish I could write and tell you all about this country, and the people, but we are not allowed to. It’s awfully funny to see and watch the people walk in those wooden shoes they wear, wish I could send you a pair. They are drilling us awfully hard. The gas drill is the one we all hate, and the one we should love. The weather is awfully bad. It snowed all night and has been snowy all day. Mud is awful, but we are getting used to it. Well I guess I have written enough. Write to me when you can, for my heart is ever anxious for a word from “over there.” With love and kisses and a heartfull of wishes to you and yours. “BEN” File at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ga/taylor/newspapers/wwilette2247nw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 3.5 Kb

    3. Mike, My wife descends thru Richard and Delilah's daughter, Clarinda, who married a Major. In fact, Sula's(my wife) dad was named Major Echols. I am familiar with the Eloise Groover Lovell's book and do know that there were some errors. We attended Haw Creek Baptist church during our youth and both our parents were members till death. Richard and Delilah were the founders of that church and are buried in the church cemetary. I wish we could start a reunion for the descendants of that very dedicated couple. I am afraid that the church will cease to exist since Forsyth Co has become one of the fastest growing counties in the US. The few that attend the church now refuse to moderate their views so as to attract younger folks. It was, indeed, one of the mother churches of the Southern Baptist faith in Forsyth Co, GA. A pyramid scheme billionaire is building a house near it that rivals the Biltmore House near Asheville, NC. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Gibson" <mikegibsonathome@msn.com> To: <GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 30, 2005 7:34 PM Subject: Re: [GACHEROK-L] SWANSON-HUTCHISON Families > Don, > > I descend from Rev. 3. Don, I descend from Rev. Richard Phillips through his son Daniel M. Phillips. I know there were several Phillips/Pruitt marriages. If you are familiar with Eloise Groover Lovell's book "The Richard Phillips Family History 1791 - 1983", you might be interested to know she missed a couple of children of Daniel. She listed the children named in the 1850 census on the bottom of page 602, but she didn't list David Louis (my great grandfather) and Robert Phillips. Several of the children moved to Texas after Daniel's death. I would like exchange information, if you are agreeable. 2. Hey Rebecca: This uncle you had not met, the one you met in Gainesville was George Adams, the baby of the family and brother to Lamar and my mother. I have been busy with genealogy and making local one day trips to libraries and courthouse gathering information. I got a copy of James Adams will and posted it to my website. I also got copies of land grants from Nathaniel Reid in Caswell County NC. I took pictures and posted it all on the website. In October, i will be going to another family reunion for the Allison line in Brevard NC. I am so looking forward to this. They will have about 500 to 600 people there and several genealogist that have done the Adams line. I hope to find some new information.
