    3. Mary, To further muddy the water, I found my LEVI WATTS in the GA 1850 Census listed as WATES. So the bunch is probably all tied together. It was the only year that the spelling varied so I lay it off to the census taker and not a variation of the family. Mickey

    3. Each of you may know all these already, but I learned a lot from this post, which was posted to another list I am a member of. Being that most of us use the search engines much of the time, I thought this would be good to share with all of our members. Wyndell Taylor List Manger >SEARCH ENGINE TIPS >by Mike Jarvis > >As genealogists in today's high-tech world, the importance of using search >engines properly is ever increasing. 2. Hello to all, I am new on this list and am praying I will find information about my great grandmother. She was Frances E (Fanny) Wates Waits ? Born abt 1856 GA. She married James W Webb b 1848 SC They first show up married there in Cherokee Co, Hickory Flat on the 1880 census with first child Laura age 3. I am searching for hopefully a marriage record that should be around 1877 or somewhere before the 1880 census. I believe there is a good chance they were married in Cherokee Co GA. I have her death record for 1929 Troup Co GA. It states she was born in TN and mother was Sarah and father Charlie. I cannot find her in a family with parents of this names. The closest match I can find is the Madison Wait Sarah Walker family in 1860 Oak Grove, Fulton Co GA. I have checked every census I can think of and every possible spelling of the last name. Any help on this will be so very greatly appreciated!! Thank you all, Mary in AL

    3. Shirley's research was very thorough, so I doubt that she overlooked his tombstone. I see his family was in Jackson County in 1860, but I couldn't find him on later censuses. In 1870 his sons Oliver and John lived together in Clay County Alabama. His son David was married and was living in the Gritter District of Cobb County. I couldn't find is wife, Elizabeth or his son Morgan, either. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mickey Watts" <ma.watts@comcast.net> To: <GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 02, 2005 4:41 PM Subject: Re: [GACHEROK-L] BIG SPRINGS > Wally, > Thanks for the info on the church's location. 3. Big Springs Methodist Cemetery is east of Canton in Cherokee County. Take Hwy 140 out of Canton toward Roswell for about 8 miles, then turn left ofn Sugar Pike Road. The church is on the right side of the road about 1/2 mile from the turn. The cemetery is on the left side. Levi's grave is not listed in Shirley Morris' cemetery survey book, which suggests that his marker was either never put up or it was destroyed. Two notices were contained in a collection published by John Carver. The first, on November 29, 1889 noted that he died the previous Sunday at his home near Batesville and was born in 1812 in Buncombe County, North Carolina. 3. According to the book, "Cemeteries of Cherokee County, Georgia" by Shirley Morris, Big Springs Methodist Church Cemetery is located on Hwy. 140 east towards Roswell off of Sugar Pike Road. 1. James J. or Cicero C. Elliott from GA 1860- 1880
    2. Flora
    3. Hello List, I am searching for information on the family of James Jackson ELLIOTT, born about 1817 in GA. He married Matilda Freeman, born about 1825 in GA. They were in WHITE County, GA in 1860, in FORSYTH County, GA in 1870, and in CHEROKEE County, GA in 1880. The children I have listed for them are: 1. MARTHA A., born about 1847 in GA 2. CICERO COLUMBUS, born about 1848 in WHITE County, GA. (this info from his marriage record). CICERO COLUMBUS ELLIOTT married 5 Feb 1878 in FORSYTH County, GA to Sarah DOOLY. They are enumerated on the 1880 FORSYTH County, GA Census with a son, Robert E. ELLIOTT, age 1. This is the couple I am trying to trace. I can't find them anywhere after the 1880 census. If anyone knows of them please contact me. I would be happy to exchange information with you. The other children of James Jackson Elliott were: 3. MARY J., born about 1851 in GA 4. SARAH, born about 1853 in GA 5. CAROLINE, born about 1855 in GA 6. ROSETTA, born about 1857 in GA 7. BARNEY F.born about 1861 in GA Hoping someone knows of this ELLIOTT family, Flora

    3. My GG grandparents' (Joshua Ellis and Sarah E. Kelly) 28 Feb 1837 marriage is recorded in the Book A , Forsyth County Marriages. # 598 Deed Book E, page 498 -499 indicates Joshua C ELLIS of Cherokee County sold Land Lot 624, 3rd District, 2nd Section to William ELLIS of Cherokee County on 19 Dec 1840. I am attempting to establish a relationship between Joshua & William ELLIS. I suspect William may be Joshua's father, but can find no documentation for my theory. They are both listed in the 1840 Census of Cherokee County and the eldest male in the William Ellis household is old enough to be Joshua's father. Sarah E. KELLY is the daughter of Hiram & Elizabeth (McGee) Kelly. Thanks for any information you can provide. Jonelle ELLIS Russell Email: ljrussell@earthlink.net

    3. Ellen As Linda Murray stated Anderson Alfred Martin married Sarah J. Burns. Sarah Jane Burns Martin died before 16 June 1889 (the date Anderson Martin married second wife Elvira Duncan) and is buried in Macedonia Baptist cemetery in Cherokee County. The Sarah A. Martin listed in the 1900 census is actually the mother of Anderson Martin. This Sarah never married. She was born 21 May 1835 and died 22 December 1925. She is also buried at Macedonia as are Anderson and Elvira Duncan Martin. I have more information if you are interested. 3. See link below for the Cherokee County probate court's Marriage database lookup tool . . . It is current through the '90s at least. http://www.cherokeega.com/departments/judicial/probate/marriage_search.cfm I queried Bailey marriages and there are a lot. I didn't find an exact match for your search but it could take some digging. Try alternative spellings -- I've found several marriages that way. FYI -- Judge Kipling L. "Kip" McVay and the probate court deserves a HUGE thank you for this website. Besides the marriage database -- there is also a search tool for Estate dockets. http://www.cherokeega.com/departments/judicial/probate/estate_search.cfm Rebecca Bannister rbannister@comcast.net (Main Email) beccasroots@comcast.net (Geneology Email) crescentchronicle@comcast.net (Cherokee County Historical Society Newsletter) -----Original Message----- From: Patricia Brimer [mailto:plbrimer@swbell.net] Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2005 9:39 AM To: GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GACHEROK-L] Marriage look up Thank you Linda. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Murray" <lhmurray@bellsouth.net> To: <GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2005 8:11 AM Subject: Re: [GACHEROK-L] Marriage look up > Tricia, > Mr. Taylor has posted the early Cherokee County marriages to the USGenWeb > site for that county. > Check there and check also for the spelling Baley. > http://www.usgenweb.com > Select Georgia and then Cherokee County. > Good luck. > Linda Murray > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Patricia Brimer > To: GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com > Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2005 8:35 AM > Subject: [GACHEROK-L] Marriage look up > > > Trying to find a marriage record for: > James N. 3. Tricia, Mr. Taylor has posted the early Cherokee County marriages to the USGenWeb site for that county. Check there and check also for the spelling Baley. http://www.usgenweb.com Select Georgia and then Cherokee County. Good luck.
