HI Don I am interested in the Rainwater line. I have Ann Elizabeth Rainwater married John Weston Kisselburg in 1891. Ann was the daughter of Beatman Rainwater and granddaughter of Mathew Rainwater. Any info welcome. Thanks Jan Kisselburg Chris, What are your lines? I trace my Pruitt and Rainwater as well as Purser line back to the Woodstock/Hickory Flat area. I was raised in Forsyth Co, GA and graduated from FCHS but have lived in the Salisbury, NC area for 38 years. I found some of the burials at Little River Methodist church just outside of Woodstock. If you know anyone researching those 3 lines let me know. I will keep your email address if I have any questions. We still have family around Cumming in Forsyth Co. Don Pruitt
Chris, I am looking for any Webb family that may be buried in Cherokee Co GA. Nancy Webb was born about 1815 SC and was on the 1880 census for Hickory Flat Cherokee Co GA. I have not been able to find where she died but believe it must have been Cherokee Co. To re-pay the kind offer I will look up whatever I can for you here in Jefferson Co AL Thank you so much! Mary
Chris, Is there a Fred BISHOP in your family tree? Thanks. John R. Clarke 229-228-1961 2417 N. I've got the Shirley Morris cemetery book which is a survey of all of the Cherokee County cemeteries as of about 1997. It's a great reference, but it has one weakness: the names in each cemetery are in alphabetical order, so it doesn't tell you where they are buried in relationship to each other. I live in Maryland and haven't been back to my home state in about three years. When I last visited I did my own survey of McCollums in the Landmark Baptist cemetery in Holly Springs and it really helped me sort out who was related to whom. If I gave you a list of McCollums in other cemeteries in the county, would you be able to photograph the markers and put together a diagram of where they are in the cemetery and in relationship to each other? If so, I can pay you a reasonable amount for your time and effort. If you prefer, I can at least partially compensate you "in kind" by doing some research for you. I'm a fairly competent researcher with considerable experience in tracing families in the south and southeast. If you check out the Cherokee County message board you'll see my name and the work I've been doing. I'm strictly an amateur. I don't charge for the work or for mailing the results. It's a hobby and I get a lot of satisfaction from helping others. All I need to get started is what you know about your ancestors already. I try to start with where I might be able to find them in the 1930 census, then I work backwards. I look forward to hearing from you. W. Chris, you are great for offering you time to help us! I am sure you will have lots of requests. My request is probably in the court records of abt 1850-1860. William Wood who is in the 1850 Cherokee County, GA Census with his wife Elizabeth and family. Elizabeth is Elizabeth Norwood who married William Wood in 1841, a widow with two Norwood children living with the Wood family in 1850. Our family story says that William was killed by a stepson, probably Norwood??? after 1850. Are there any records about this murder? Are there newspaper reports? Where would the son be imprisoned? He was held in jail/prison until after the Civil War, 1865 or so and then released. Can you help me with this, please? Someone at the local historical society may be able to help also. If you can give me any phone #'s or contact people to help with my research when I come to Cherokee Co in late March or April, this would be very helpful. The Cherokee County reference material I have shows the following: Benjamin Harrison Howard was born December 24, 1829 in South Carolina. He was the son of Elihu Howard and Jane Nabours. This family moved first into the part of Habersham County that became White County in 1857. enjamn moved on to Cherokee County. Joseph Neighbors married Elizabeth Cornett on November 27, 1864 (Marriage Book D, Page 221) No other references to 19th century Neighbors/Neighbours/Nabours/Nabers were found in obituary, cemetery survey, or county heritage books. They had one child while living in SC ..... they moved to Cherokee Co, GA where they had four more, including Daniel T. Neighbours. They then moved to DeSoto Co, MS between 1853-1855, where their last child was born. They likely stayed in MS and died there. Pvt. Daniel T. Neighbors served with Co. G, (Johnston's) 1st Miss. Infantry, CSA. Daniel T. Neighbours married Mary E.__________ and had 6 kids. The first 5 were born in MS. The last one, Dewitt, was born in AR. So Daniel & Mary are likely buried in AR. Thanks.
