    3. Lynne, I've scoured all of the Cherokee County sources I could locate for John's and Hannah's obituaries, but found nothing. I've also gone over Cherokee County will and probate records with no luck. They were my third great grandparents and they left very few official records of their existence. The Reverend J. W. McCollum is actually James W. McCollum, son of Jesse Miller McCollum, who was the son of William "Billy" McCollum. Billy was daniel's eldest son. Here's his obituary: The Reverend James W. McCollum's obituary appeared in the August 30, 1907 edition of the Cherokee Advance as follows: "Rev. James McCollum died last Wednesday afternoon with typhoid fever. Mr. McCollum was in his 72nd year and spent most of his life at the place where he died. , which was settled by his father, Jesse McCollum, who died in his 96th year in February last. He was a Mason and a Confederate soldier, a member of the 28th Georgia regiment and served his country with heroism and bravery throughout the war. He is survived by his wife, no children blessed this union. Her brother, A.L. Kennett is her next of kin. His remains were interred at Shiloh Church, of which Rev. McCollum was a member, having joined there 50 odd years ago. Also surviving are brothers, W.T. McCollum of Canton; R.A. McCollum of Marietta; Chas. J. McCollum of Atlanta; sisters Mrs T.J. Killian and Mrs D.A. Willis of Univeter. (page 5 column 3) (born 13 January 1836; died 28 August 1907)" Wally ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynne" <lynner1@alltel.net> To: <GACHEROK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 12, 2006 2:54 PM Subject: [GACHEROK-L] Obituary Needed - McCollum >I am searching for an obituary notice for John Washington McCollum who died >at the age of 78 in Cherokee Co. 3. Lynne, I checked in "Annotated Obituaries from the Cherokee Advance, 1880-1938" by John Carver, published by woodward-geiger.com in Jasper, GA. The only reference to a possible John Washington McCollum was in the following obituary. May 19, 1883 Mr. Anderson, 82 years of age, was buried at Shiloh Thursday last. Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. W. McCollum. (Page 2 Col 1) Could this be him? There are only 3 obituaries listed for November 1883 and none of them are McCollum's. Sorry that I could not be of more help. Dr. Turk was sent for and administered an antidote, and the little fellow is now doing very well. The snake was killed, it had three rattles and a button. John Casteel shot and killed a rattlesnake near the Micon gold mine, four miles northwest of Canton, last week, which measured four feet and four inches in length and seven inches around, and had nine rattles and the inevitable button. And the Villain of a Husband Returned to His Wife. Canton, Ga. January 26. - [Special.]- Some weeks ago the Cherokee Advance con- tained an article in regard to one Andrew Harper and Mrs. W. s. Dimsdale leaving Ball Ground together and palming them- selves off on the country as man and wife. Harper left a wife and three children, and Mrs. Dimsdale a husband and two children. Nothing definitely was heard of the couple until last Friday, when Mr. Dimsdale received a letter from Mr. W. H. Harris, of Culberson, N.C., stating that "a man by the name of Harper, a low chunky fellow, sandy hair and very freckled, came to his his house three weeks ago with a woman whom he at first claimed to be his wife. The woman was sick with billous fever and grew worse, when he started for a doctor but never returned. The woman was spare made, with dark hair and eyes. While on her deathbed she said she was ruined for- ever; that she had left her husband and two little children; that her husband's name was W. S. Dimsdale and that he lived near Ball Ground. She died on the 16th of January with billous fever. It is supposed that Har- per slipped back home and moved his family away, and is now living with them again. He is a fiend of blackest hue. 3. Searching for information about the Theron Monroe Family. Theron MONROE (1814 - 1878) married 24 Mar 1836 to Mary S KELLY. They are believed to be the parents of William S ( born circa 1837); Sarah E (born circa 1839); Martha J (born circa 1842); Emily H (born circa 1848); Josephine (born 1855); and Laura J. (born circa 1857) Laura J. Monroe 1st married Alonzo GAGE. Their children were; D Harrison born about 1878; Homer Gordon born about 1880, and Theron Monroe Gage born 20 Apr 1880. Laura's second husband was King Phillips. Mary KELLY-MONROE lived with her daughter after Theron's dearth. Mary's sister Elizabeth married Thomas MONROE son of Jesse & Martha MONROE. Thomas and Elizabeth were residents of Tennessee in 1870 and before 1880 had moved to AR near Elizabeth's brother Dr. Jesse R Kelly, her sister Sarah Kelly ELLIS, and half sisters; Louiza, Elmina, & Malinda. Another brother Joseph Kelly was killed by Bushwhackers in 1863. Mary's remaining siiblings apparently remained in the Forsyth area. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Also, one named Louisa Smith. He may have been orphaned at an early age. If Marinda and Louisa are his sisters, Marinda and Nancy A were born in South Carolina. HenryThey are on the 1850 census with a Revis family and next door is a William Smith. Henry married Deborah Jones, daughter of John Jefferson Jones and Frances Hopgood Jones. His name is from Rev. Humphrey Posey. I have been told that Rev. Peter Kuykendall, Rev. Byars and Humphrey Posey Rice's father (or my great grandfather's ancestor,) were all involved in helping establish the early Baptist churches in Georgia. Some of our Rice's have stated they thought Grandpa Rice's father was a Circut Rider Minister, but I believe it was his grandfather, Peter Kuykendall, that they are talking about. Kay
