    3. There is a church - quite historical. It was used as a hospital during the Civil War and it is one of the few remaining old buildings with a balcony - slave gallery. The church is still in use as a church with services on Sundays. There is also a cemetery. Many of the graves are very old and the cemetery is still expanding to the west from the church. There is a partial listing of the Cemetery in the USGENWEB Chattooga County archives. Wish I had had the time to do it all last time I was there but then we always have to save something for next time. Now I am saying west and it might be more southwest. Anyway it is in famous Broomtown valley which you should never try to pinpoint unless you want a lesson in frustration. The valley runs from several miles in AL to half way to Trion. Many points within the valley are variously referenced as Broomtown. There are a number of houses and farms in the area. Locally, everyone seems to know Alpine so it is easy to get good directions (once you get to Menlo). Bill > I also believe there is a cemetary and church there. > >
