It allows you to make the initial search on a minimum of one letter in the last name, and on various options for gender, age at arrival, year of arrival, boat name, ethnicity, and port of departure. By using it you avoid having to wait until you receive the results of your initial global search to edit the search criteria with more narrow limits.
