    2. C. Cegielski
    3. As you probably have noticed, the GAGenWeb Chattooga County site has disappeared. All attempts to contact the former cc have failed. I have loaded a new GAGenWeb Chattooga County website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gachatto/ This site is currently available for adoption. If you have an interest in putting Chattooga County genealogical resources on the internet, please consider adopting this site. While you do not need to have any experience writing and maintaining webpages, you would need to acquire this skill or team up with another researcher with this experience. GAGenWeb maintains a list of Guidelines for County Coordinators at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gagenweb/cchelp/ This page outlines GAGenWeb page requirements and contains tips for creating a successful website. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or wish to adopt this site. Carla Cegielski GAGenWeb NW Region Coordinator

    3. Hello Bob, Thank you for the surname information from the book and also for the contact info to order the book. Your suggestions are appreciated and I will contact the Walker Co Historical Society. You are very generous to share your time helping all of us. ------Original Message------ From: <carpe51@attglobal.net> To: GACHATTO-L@rootsweb.com Sent: April 12, 2001 4:21:18 AM GMT Subject: Re: [GACHATTO] Chattooga Cemetery Book Hi Carol The "Walker County Cemeteries", Volume 1, South Walker County and the associated Index to this book are available from: Walker County Historical Society P.O. Box 707 LaFayette, GA 30728 I would recommend that you write them and ask for a listing of books that they have for sale with prices. I did that and wound up buying five different books. The book titled,"Walker County Georgia Heritage 1833-1983" is an excellant book and has 16 references to the COX surname, 21 for the HUNTER surname, and no mention of the Varnadore surname. With respect to the COX surname in the Cemetery book, these names are referenced: Clyde; Dianna Lynn; Hattie Sharp; J.H.; Laura C.; Richard Arthur 'Ricky'; and Sharon D. And for Hunter: Bill; Dottie Loomy; Elexander S.; Elizabeth; James H.; J. H.; L.E.; Lucy M.; Martha; Nancy; Will B.; William Joseph; Winnie Lee; and Wm. Ray. Also there is no mention of Varnadore in the cemetery book. Note: this cemetery book is for South Walker County with a few North Chattooga County cemeteries included. 2. Those names aren't indexed, but my folks weren't either. I found numerous entries by skimming through. If you have family in Chattooga, this book is a must and can be checked out interlibrary loan and also is still for sell, I believe. It has alot of lists of people. For example county commisiioners, postmasters, etc. God Bless SD

    3. At 08:40 AM 4/10/01 -0400, you wrote: >Chattooga : The Story of a County & It's People > >Have fun.Shelby Thanks, I guess I should at least introduce myself. Thru the help Charlotte Mason in Rosseville, we finally attached my branch of the Gilreath family to the rest of the Gilreath tree. Her Grandfather was my great grand fathers brother. The importance for this list is that it ties me back to James H Gilreath who settled in the Broomtown valley in the 1850's. 2 more generations of his family lived there. His Son Hiram is who we are looking for more information on now. We live in the UP of Michigan, 4 hours north of Green Bay Wisconsin. Yes we are way up north. My Great grandfather followed the wollen mills work to LaPorte Indiana bringing my 16 year old grandfather with him. My father was born in LaPorte, and I in Michigan City, Indiana. I moved to The UP of michigan To attend Michigan Tech Univ in 1977 and never left, I now work for the university. We came to Georgia last summer and met all of the Gilreath related to Charlotte and traveled around the cemetaries and the broomtown valley, not knowing exactly where they lived, but close enough, we felt at home. we stopped at Gilreath creek on Gilreath Mill road, and even ran into another Gilreath while filling the Gas tank in Trion. I have been reading with interest all the mail and accounts of my ancesters county. Thanks for all the information, and if anyone has any info on the Gilreath's of Broomtown valley (especially James H's line), please contact me. Thanks again Bob Bob Gilreath Telcom Engineer IT Telcom Michigan Tech University 906-487-3697 bobg@mtu.edu
