Does anyone have a list of the teachers of any of the Melville Schools? Thx Michelle
Hopefully, this will help the Dock Wilkens researcher. WILKINS GENEALOGY LINKS for WILKINS researchers worldwide. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~wilkins/

I have about 4 deeds I would like to have copies and was wondering if anyone in Chattooga Co, GA would be willing to do them for me???? I sure do appreciate any assistance in this matter. Thanks a bunch!!!!! Sincerely, Michelle Researching the Foster's in Chattooga Co, GA Lyerly and Foster's Store, GA
Valerie: I live in Chattooga County (Lyerly) and just today returned from a visit to the Alpine Village of Helen, GA which is in White County (N.E. GA mountains), a resort area. The community of Alpine, GA is a functioning community which is about three miles west of Lyerly and also near Menlo, GA; all of which are in Chattooga County (N.W. GA). Alpine is very near the GA / AL state line... I don't believe that Alpine has a Post Office. Their mail is probably via a RR from Lyerly, or more likely from Menlo, GA. Best wishes, CPJ ----- Original Message ----- From: <ValerieGrisham@aol.com> To: <GACHATTO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2001 3:37 PM Subject: [GACHATTO] Where is Alpine, GA > Does Alpine, GA still exist? Trying to find the family of William L. FLOYD and his wife, Tabitha BURTON, my GG Grandparents. In 1860 they show up in the Flatwood District of Floyd County with children: Frances B. (B. 1843), Joshua (B. 1847), Pauline (B. 1849), Minerva (B. 1852), Benja. (B. 1857), Perry (Born 1859). In 1880 they are listed in Summerville, Chattooga County with the following children: Mary Rebecca(age 25), Caroline (age 19), Bartow S. (age 15), and Thomas Benjamin (age 23). I have information on some of these last children, but am looking for burial places, marriage info on children, and other family information. They lived on Lookout Mountain during the Civil War while William L. was gone to war. Anyone recognize this family? I'd love to share what I have learned, and gather new information.
You are welcome. Copies can still be purchased if you need to. And it is an excellant book! So much info. Over 1000 pages. God Bless. Michelle
I have the book and p. # and live in TX. I would appreciate any help. Those deeds are of great importance to me. Sincerely, M. Doss
Thank you Michelle, I am waiting for Bob to send me his book. I think it will be very valuable to my family history work. Valerie

There is a church - quite historical. It was used as a hospital during the Civil War and it is one of the few remaining old buildings with a balcony - slave gallery. The church is still in use as a church with services on Sundays. There is also a cemetery. Many of the graves are very old and the cemetery is still expanding to the west from the church. There is a partial listing of the Cemetery in the USGENWEB Chattooga County archives. Wish I had had the time to do it all last time I was there but then we always have to save something for next time. Now I am saying west and it might be more southwest. Anyway it is in famous Broomtown valley which you should never try to pinpoint unless you want a lesson in frustration. The valley runs from several miles in AL to half way to Trion. Many points within the valley are variously referenced as Broomtown. There are a number of houses and farms in the area. Locally, everyone seems to know Alpine so it is easy to get good directions (once you get to Menlo). Bill > I also believe there is a cemetary and church there. > >
I also believe there is a cemetary and church there.
I defer to Bill, although my atlas shows Alpine to be well into Dekalb County Alabama. There is an Alpine Road south of Menlo just off Rt 337. W. It was located south of Menlo in Chattooga Co, GA est 1843,closed 1900. Per Bob Baker's Book. Michelle
Valerie, I have a detailed current Georgia atlas which does not list an Alpine, Georgia, only Helen. Alpine Helen is a relatively recent name which was adopted as a tourist attraction. W.
