Hi Virginia: I have some of the same questions as you. I have a number of Chattahoochee County families that moved to Hunt County, Texas about 1884. I have no idea hwy they all chose Hunt County. I have never read a history of Fort Benning but suspect the fort could well be why some many left about the same time. Cicero Dodson (1846-1920) Mar 1870 to Missouri Amanda Shipp (1850-1934) John A Crawford (1840-1923)Mar 1877 to Mary Jane Howell (1860-1934) Children from the above two families married in Hunt Co Texas. Prior to Texas I do not know that these families were related. Related Chattahoochee Co families: Dodson, Shipp, Phelts,Phelps,Walker, Holliman, Farr, Howell, Cobb, Crawford, Perkins, MIC Mic Barnette writes a genealogy column in the Houston Chronicle.
