    2. "Whitfeild, Geo--A. B. Minister at Savannah; embark'd 6 Jan. 1738; arrived 7 May 1738. Agrant of 300 acres was made him in Savannah District for supporting an Orphan house 1739. In 27 Aug 1738 he left the Colony with purpose to return" My note--the correct spelling of his name is Whitefield. His preaching and that of Jonathan Edwards is what sparked the Great Awakening in colonial times. He started Bethesda Orphange in Savannah, and it is still in existence: <A HREF="http://www.bethesdahomeforboys.org/hist-f.htm">Bethesda History</A> http://www.bethesdahomeforboys.org/hist-f.htm Not on the list is James Whitfield, who was a marshall in the royal government, but served on the Aamerican side in the Revolution.
