Chatham County Researchers: I was recently looking thru a box of old papers and things, and found an old postcard type photo of Savannah, GA. It looks like one of the first souvenir postal cards which came out in the 1893 to 1898 era. This particular one is of Oglethorpe Avenue in Savannah, GA ... complete with the mis-spelling as "Oglethrope". The back says: Handcolored Series No. 5654. Adolph Seige Pub. Co., St. Louis - Leipzig. Printed in Germany. Souvenir Card. The photo is much larger than a regular postcard, and is about 5 1/2 X 7". There is a fold down the middle of the card. I assume that the card was supposed to be folded in half, and then placed in an envelope for mailing. Or, maybe it was supposed to be folded so the the photo portion was on the inside when it was mailed.
