We are hoping to be in Savannah towards the end of this coming week. Would one of you know where we would most likely find city directories for any or all years between 1910 and 1927? Jesse Alexander Newsome (born c 1875, GA) is on the 1910 Fed census in Chatham Co with his wife, Fannie Wimberly Newsome and their four children (William, Sarah Ellen, Louise and Margaret.) However, we lose him after that. No record of him again until he's listed as deceased on William's marriage license in 1927. We know where he's buried (Lyons, GA) but the headstone has no dates and we haven't been able to get burial info from the local funeral home, or city clerk's office. We are told that the cemetery does not have an office. With any luck, the city directories might give us a clue as to if he died in Savannah or somewhere else. At least narrowing that 17 year stretch would give us a better shot at ordering a death certificate. So, if someone might tell us where to look for the directories or suggest another strategy, we'd be very grateful.
