Frank, Thanks so much for writing. We've been working on Jesse Newsom(e) for so long that we welcome a fresh perspective. The good news is that we know he's buried in Lyons City Cemetery, Lyons, Toombs Co., GA. The bad news is that his headstone has no dates. The cemetery has no records. There is no death certificate at the Toombs Co courthouse. The local monument supplier and funeral home don't have records before 1931. We don't even know if he died in GA or somewhere else because he's buried next to his brother-in-law who died down here in West Palm Beach, FL. Jesse's not on the Florida death index, nor the North Carolina death index (where his wife was living in 1927 before she and the children moved to Florida.) There are three remote possibilities on the GA death index. Thought if someone up there happened to be looking at directories, they might scope out a couple for us. I go to genealogical libraries in Palm Beach and St. Lucie Counties, if anybody needs anything from Florida. Pam, A few years ago I needed a death certificate in Savannah. The Health Dept. folks couldn't find it. They sent me a list of everyone with a close name. The list was produced from their database of death certificates going back to the mid-1800s. So, if Jesse died in Chatham Co. the Health Dept. may be of assistance.
