I know this is an awful lot to ask, but if anyone out there could help us out by checking one or more of the Savannah City directories for the years 1910-1927, we'd be most grateful. Our trip to Vidalia and Savannah was cut short unexpectedly and it may be a while before we can get away again. We are trying to nail down a death date for Jesse Alexander NEWSOME during that time frame. He and his family are on the 1910 fed census in Savannah: NEWSOME, Jessie A. (may also be listed as Alex) NEWSOME, Fannie R. (Frances) Ellen S., age 12 Louise, age 10 William, age 7 Margaret G. age 6 If Fannie suddenly turned up listed by herself, it might give us a date to work with, anyway. Of course, to complicate things, Newsome can be spelled without the "e" and also as Nusom, Newson, etc. Thanks so much. Pam Pamela Newsome Marietta Palm Beach County, Florida
Pam, Rather than check 18 city directories for a missing person, it might be more productive to check the WPA books on the 3 largest cemeteries, Laurel Grove, Bonaventure, and Catholic. The death date would be listed. These books are available on microfilm from a Family History Center. Check the catalog at FamilySearch.org for details.
