Mary Ellen, Thanks for the tips. My problem is that I don't have the money to spend to order a bunch of CDs and books. I have gone to the S.C. Archives, which is 40 miles from here. It's a great source for our S.C. connections, but of course only has a smattering of books on Chatham County, Ga. According to my wife's grandmother, she was not put in an orphanage.
