First just checking to see if this list is alive since the last post I have is from 10/1. Second new queries have been added to the Chatham County site - http://www.rootsweb.com/~gachatha/queries.htm Third, new updates to the 1868 history should go online some time this week. This is a reply to someone looking for information on the late John MacPherson BERRIEN. According to Volume 1 of the Laurel Grove Cemetery (10-12-1852 to 11-30-1861), he is buried in Lot 493 of Laurel Grove Cemetery, north division. The owner of the lot was listed as W. T. WILLIAMS (page 243). His name is spelled as "Mc" and not "Mac." On page 98, he is listed as having died on January 1, 1856 due to inflamation of the kidneys and was attended by a physician named WEST. His age at death was shown as 74 y, 4 m, 8 d, and he is shown as being from New Jersey. Here are a few other things I found: 1. The W. T. WILLIAMS is probably William Thadeus WILLIAMS (page 37) who was removed from the old cemetery to Laurel Grove. He is to have died in 1854 and was buried on June 15, 1854. There's no information as to his age or where he was born. The following people were shown as being in his burial Lot 637, all removed from the old cemetery and buried on June 15, 1854: - Mary WILLIAMS - Dr. George M. WILLIAMS - Major Ebers H. WILLIAMS - Mary Catharine BURROUGHS - Laura Isabella BURROUGHS 3. When you look at Lot 637 on page 246, there are these people listed as being buried there as well in addition to the others (owner is listed as Rev. B. BURROUGHS): - B. M. Berrian BURROUGHS - Rev. Benjamin BURROUGHS - Joseph H. BURROUGHS - Mary Catharine BURROUGHS (she is listed twice, so it may be a daughter) - Roper M. E. BURROUGHS - Sarah Jones HUME - William M. LEIGH - Eliza Miller ROGERS 4. In Lot 636, these are listed as being buried (owner is listed as Rev. B. BURROUGHS): - Berrien BURROUGHS - George V. GIBBS - John GIBBS & Infant - William Law McLEOD 5. In Lot 638, there is a Sarah LEIGH & child (owner was I. T. NAYLOR) 6. In Lot 639, there is a William Leigh NAYLOR (owner was I. T. NAYLOR) 7. In Lot 1154, there are the following (owner was William H. BURROUGHS): - Ann C. BURROUGHS, removed from old cemetery and buried May 27, 1858 - Benjamin BURROUGHS, removed from old cemetery and buried May 27, 1858 (he is listed twice, so it may be a son) - Catharine BURROUGHS, removed from old cemetery and buried May 27, 1858 - Dr. Henry K. BURROUGHS, removed from old cemetery and buried May 27, 1858 - Catharine J. GREEN and children, removed from old cemetery and buried May 27, 1858 - Children of Dr. John S. LAW, removed from old cemetery and buried May 27, 1858 - Emily M. LAW - Eliza ROBERTS - Francis H. WELMAN 8. In Lot 430 (owner was Col. James HUNTER): - Mrs. BERRIAN, removed from old cemetery and buried May 25, 1858 - Eliza C. HUNTER, removed from old cemetery and buried May 25, 1858 Bob Carter Greensboro, NC
