    3. Dear Researchers, The Historic Effingham Society recently received its updated cemetery book Effingham County Cemeteries 1734 to 2001 edited by Antoinette "Toni" FREEMAN and Betty FORD RENFRO (297 pp, indexed, hardback 8 1/2" x 11"), which covers 90 cemeteries and includes over 12,000 names from the years 1734 through 2001. There are location descriptions for the cemeteries as well as map references, and nine pages of pictures of local cemetery monuments. The cost of the book is $38 plus $5 for shipping and handling. Checks should be made out to Historic Effingham Society. If ordering by mail, please send your mailing address and a check for the $43 total to: Historic Effingham Society Post Office Box 999 Springfield GA 31329 The Historic Effingham Society is headquartered in the Old Jail Museum in Springfield (at the corner of Pine and Early Streets, just northwest of the Effingham Co GA Court House). The society's webpage should be available soon. The museum, which has exhibits for many aspects of the county's history and prehistory, is open on Sunday afternoons from 2-5 PM; admission is free, but they do accept donations. Copies of the cemetery book, as well as other publications and the society's calendars (which include pictures from Effingham County from long ago), are available for purchase at the museum (without shipping and handling charges, of course). May God Bless You All and Your Families, Bob (John Robert) PEAVY Post Office Box 1519 Rincon GA 31326-1519 jrpv@netzero.net Note: I had not gotten a copy of the initial 1994 edition before it quickly went out of print, so I'd waited (patiently?) several years for the completion and printing of this update. As to the museum itself, in addition their accustomed enthusiasm for a quick review of how hard life used to be (wood stoves, iceboxes, irons made of iron, &c.), kids like to be "locked up" in the jail cells -- you may (only momentarily, of course) enjoy their incarceration yourself. ________________________________
