I am searching for the parents of Green Fleetwood who was born in 1810 and died in 1856. Theoretically, this would mean the parents would have married before 1810 and would have been born around 1790 or before. According to "family stories," Green and his brother, John, were orphaned when they were about 10-12 years old. Both boys married girls from Effingham County: Green married Mary Morgan in 1832 and John married Mary [Margaret] Thompson in 1840...both girls are from Effingham County. I have found extensive information on the Morgan family. Green and John show up in Savannah in the 1840 Census, where they raise their families (John had no children) and where they establish careers as harbor pilots and ship captains. Family legend also has it that the first Fleetwood to settle in Georgia was John Fleetwood. Supposedly, he made his home among the Salzburgers. I have no documentation of this, but since Green and John married girls from Effingham and there are no traces of Fleetwood's in Savannah before they show up there in 1840, it does seem probable that they were living there. I need some help trying to find information on the Fleetwood family in Effingham County. One idea may be to search Effingham cemeteries, but I don't know where to begin. I'm sure there must be many documents that I could pursue, but I need some help identifying and developing a plan. I am not at all familiar with researching Effingham County. I really appreciate any advice or help! Nancy Fleetwood Miller
