    3. Hi Judy and other Listers, I purchased the following book last summer at the Chicamauga Battle Site. This was a very moving experience and recommend a visit. The book is CAMP FIRES OF GEORGIA'S TROOPS, 1861-1865 By William S. Smedlund. I purchased in preparation for my Savannah research but have got "Hung up" so to speak in Cheshire England and have not started on Savannah as yet. However I've remained on the Ga and Savannah list in order to watch for someone searching the same names. In the book it states......Camp Colston Chatham County, Georgia The camp is probably located on the parade grounds behind the city park. An ad in the Savannah Morning News. dated 23 December 23, 1863, for a strayed horse from the camp of the 57th Regiment Georgia Volunteers, asks that the finder return the horse to the camp of the 57th Ga Vols. in the rear of the park. (See Camp Lawton) Georgia Troops: 57th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 12/14/1863 I checked Camp Lawton and it was located on the parade grounds to the rear of the city park, now Forsythe Park and gives a 2page description of Camp Lawton. I also checked the index for Proper Names mentioned and did not find any Gables. However, the book does not list everyone, just the leaders. It does give information on how to locate a relative, using the various films etc. I hope this helps in some way, Linda Bowman Researching Atkins in Savannah GA, SC and VA Donnelly in Savannah Ga and Ireland Pritchard in Savannah Ga and Cheshire England Allen in Ga, Ala and Miss.
