Does anyone on this list have an ancestor that went down on the Rebecca Hertz, a confederate blockade runner that was lost at sea? Susan Marshall
Is there a website showing the location of houses according to their numbers in the 1860 published by the Georgia Historical Society? Or where the districts are located in Savannah at that time? Does anyone know how the city was divided into districts back then? I'd appreciate any help.............. Boo! William Thomas MITCHELL m. 1844 in Savannah Josephine Jeanette WINKLER. Mitchell died in the Savannah Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1854. They had two children, Ella MITCHELL b. 1844 and William Eugene MITCHELL b. 1849. Do you have William Thomas MITCHELL in your books, please? He is a mystery to me. Thank you for your help. I also have nothing of Ella MITCHELL or her mother Josephine Jeannette Winkler MITCHELL after the war. Take care and thanks for the lookup offer. Judy
Thanks bunches, Bruce......looking forward to reading the index....will look these two books up next time @ GSA....they are reopening the Ga. State Archives here in Atlanta.....was only abt. 5 mins from us but now will be located abt. 30 mins. away.... :-( O, well, all in the name of progress! thanks again, Bruce.. Jean
Jean.... "Reminiscences and Recollections of Old Savannah" by Maj Charles Seton Henry Hardee published somewhere around 1930. Limited editions. Hardee concentrates mostly on post Civil War times. Lots of names but no index so that it is difficult to spot all the characters. Hang on, I am doing an index. Not a big book: 130 pages. Well written by a true egotist..... I have a more interesting bigger book by Thomas Gamble entitled "Savannah Duels and Duellists" pub in 1923. It does have an index and I would be happy to look up any names you need.... An LDS Family History Center (FHC) has access to the Savannah City Directories on microfiche or microfilm. Try http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?dis play=localitysearch&columns=*,180,0 You'll need to use the whole line down to the zero. Type in "Savannah" for the place. You can leave "Part of" blank. What you'll see after you select "Georgia, Chatham, Savannah" is the whole list of stuff available for the asking at your local, Washington state, FHC. OK, there might be a minor charge for getting things they don't have on hand but can get from Salt Lake. I hope this helps. Frank J. P.S. If you live east of the Cascades you might plan on Wintering in Savannah next year and doing your genealogy in person, and above freezing. :-) -----Original Message----- From: lotswife [mailto:lotswife@whidbey.net] Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 2:37 PM To: GACHATHA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GACHATHAM] Re: GACHATHA-D Digest V03 #50 How do I do that from the state of Washington??? Hello, My great grandfather was a dairyman who owned his own truck (according to the 1900 and 1910 censuses). How can I find out more about his business? Prior to being a dairyman, he was a butcher. Were licenseses or permits required for these occupations? Where would I write? Thank you, Caroline Byng Whidbey Island, WA
Do you have information about an 1826 census in Chatham County, GA? Search results on Ancestry.com for my ancestor JOHN KINGMORE document him on an 1826 Chatham County, GA census, but they do not have the census. I can't even find out how or where to access the census, let along him on it! I am hoping others who research in Chatham County will have a clue. I would appreciate any response and/or information.
