Hi Susan, Do you also have a different spelling of the CESSER line such that it might include Richard CHESSER, Sr? I have this line marrying one of my grand-aunts, Ethel Lee CARTER of Savannah, GA. Any information on this line? Susan, You can write (or email) the Savannah Public library for obits and cemetery looks ups. I have both visited them and wrote them for assistance and the folks there were very helpful. I know they have the old newspaper obits and the cemetery index because I have used both. They generally will send you a copy for $2.00 plus 25 cents per sheet (two years ago). The address is: Sharen Wixom Reference Librarian CEL Regional Library 2002 Bull Street Savannah, Ga. 31401-4609 The3 Georgia Historical Library in Savannah will also help you. Both are on line. Cheers, George
You can check the Savannah newspapers for several days after she died. Reading a 1916 edition on microfilm should be a lot easier than reading the ones from the 17-1800s! I was not sure where a relative died who is buried in Bonaventure. When I wrote to the Health Department in Savannah to request the death certificate they sent me a transportation certificate (not sure what the official name of the document was) which showed where the person actually died along with additional information including who accompanied the body from the place of death to Savannah. Hope this helps.
