    3. I am fortunate to have a copy of Mr. May's book that lists so many of my ancestors and relatives.! I am not a typist but I'm willing to help if the cemetery is not a very large one that requires a lot of typing. Thank you Mr. May for this excellent book. Maureen ----- Original Message ----- From: Crilley To: GACHATHA-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2003 7:10 AM Subject: [GACHATHAM] Ft. Stewart Cemeteries I have just received permission from Wyman May to post on-line his wonderful cemetery records for Ft. Stewart. I have not seen the book, but I understand there are 48 cemeteries listed. (This is no longer available for purchase, but it is probably in most area libraries. Please share this information as well, if you know of a library which does have the book) I am hoping that we can build a team of people who have the book and are willing to type up a few cemeteries. Please drop me a note if you can help out. > As we share this information, I'd also like to add details from individuals who might know more about those buried there. > The heading for these cemeteries should always give credit to Wyman May for his work, and list him as the copyright holder and "not to be used for profit by any person or organization". > I am so grateful for his generosity in sharing this, and know that it will benefit so many people who are not able to make the trip there themselves. We must always remember that as we sit comfortably at our computers, Mr. May spent hours and hours in surveying --- a very dirty, hot and tedious job! > > Virginia Crilley > Virginia Crilley ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    2. It is quite possible that we are connected through the Robertson line. I am descendended from George L. Robertson who had a brother, James Roberstson. James possibly had a son Francis H Robertson. I would like to be able to confirm the relationship between Francis and James. Francis Served during the Civil War with the brother of George L Robertson, Herbert Robertson. To complicate the search of the Robertsons in Savannah is the fact that there were two George Robertsons in Savannah prior to the Civil War. My George Robertson was an Overseeer on an Ossabaw Island Plantation and had a shop in the Old City Market. The other George Robertson was an attorney. I would love to share any information. Thank you John Bradford jib2163@aol.com

    3. You received the posting from Chatham County as that is the one I belong to. Way back on May 20 I saw a posting from Jvmason to rootsweb. It was a reply to Jim (Redibis1@aol.com) with the lookup of Rebecca Robertson in the 1860 census. I had corresponded with Jim and we were not sure if our families linked. I was asking Judy to look in the census for John Forrest Robertson since she volunteered to look up other Robertsons in that census or the 1850 census.. My Mother was a Robertson prior to her marriage and was raised in Savannah along with numerous cousins. She used to talk about all the fun they had at Tybee, etc. Her mother was a Haupt prior to marriage. Do you think we are connected? 3. That web site that you sent to me was one that I let someone put on the web several years ago. They moved it and now cannot even go in and change the info. I tried changing it but got nowhere. The Bible record is from 1865. The bible record was given to me and can really see mistakes in it. It was written to long after the facts but it is all that I have do go on and using as a tool to try and prove or disprove the info. It is better than nothing. Sending your note on to the person who sent me the Bible record. Thanks for answering my post. These Neels are a real big brick wall for me and the few others who are researching them. I will do as you suggest. Glee ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara A. Does not mean that your family was not there via overland travel, and it does not mean that they were not there soon thereafter. As an aside, how old is the bible? (i.e. is it published in 1700s, or written at some later time ). > George along with his brothers were supposed to have served > in the Rev war but other researchers have not been able to find anything. There are many Rev War sites on the net; a net search for Georgia + Revolution should turn up quite a few. There is another person researching your George Neel: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~neals/GeorgeNeel.htm

    3. I am new to this list. So here is my first posting. I have a old Bible record that says that the George B. Neel family was in Georgia around the time that Oglethorpe came with his settlers. I have no way of knowing if this is true or not. Does anyone on this list have a copy of the list of people who came with him on his ship. George was supposed to have come with his father and 7 brothers. No names for them at this time. That is a lot of men form one family. George was supposley only 5 years old when he came. His son was supposed to have been born in the area that is now Macon GA. in 1758. That was indian lands then and thinly populated with whites at that time. Is there records of people who lived in what is now Bibb Co in the 1700s? I suspect that they may have come into Charlseston and then moved south. There is tax records of Neels in the 1790s and early 1800s. in Franklin and Montgomery co.s My line had moved on to KY and left their relatives behind it appears. George along with his brothers were supposed to have served! in the Rev war but other researchers have not been able to find anything. Did Georgia have many units in the war? I am stabbing around here trying to find out where to look. Often if they served in the state militia then they are not in the federal records. Hope that some one can help me on this lists with some leads. Thanks so much for any help that you can give. Glee
