    1. [GACHATHAM] Newspaper Clippings
    2. I was very pleased to find several volumes of "Newspaper Clippings of Chatham County, GA" at my local library. They gave me some great new info on my Pournelle Family located there in the early 1800's. I don't have the name of the Abstracter handy. Books from other county were done by Tad Evans of Savannah, but this was a lady whose middle name was Evans - probably his daughter. I'm sure someone on the list can provide her last name. Mary

    1. [GACHATHAM] Dempsey BECKHAM d. 1818 Savannah Georgia
    2. Sharon & Alex Davis
    3. I have a brick wall I hope someone with access to Savannah records can help me with. I feel certain, my Thomas BECKHAM b. 1797 who can be found in Wayne and Glynn Counties Georgia was the son of Dempsey Beckham who died in Savannah, Ga 1818 on Colonel Martial's Plantation. He was an overseer. Does anyone have access to the probate records of that time? Perhaps a deed was written to Thomas or any information on Colonel Martial? This is basically I have have on Dempsey other than he was the son of Thomas Beckham SR of Edgefield SC. Sharon Broward Davis

    1. [GACHATHAM] Origin of the county name
    2. Tim Stowell
    3. >From the Historical Collections of Georgia page 302: "This county forms the southeast corner of the State. It is a portion of what was once called Savannah County, for in 1741, by order of the Trustees, the Colony of Georgia was divided into two counties, one of which was called Savannah, embracing all the territory north of Darien. It was laid out in 1758 into St. Philip's and Christ Church Parishes, and Christ Church and a part of St. Philip's were formed into the County of Chatham, which name was given in honour of the celebrated Earl of Chatham." 1. [GACHATHAM] Miller
    2. I have found a new lead on my Miller research, and I am trying to trace it down. My cousin had a copy of a photo of Henry Philip Miller (1844 to 1916), one of the GA Hussars. This was in some things of her parents. She and I descend from Andrew J. Miller who used to own the furniture on Broughton St. We have had no luck in locating his parents. He was born in PA and moved to Savannah abt 1850. His brother, Samuel also moved to Savannah abt 1847, and lived in Thunderbolt. I looked up Henry P. Miller in the IGI and gound that he was the son of Jacob and Caroline Miller. I think Jacob may be buried in Bonaventure, very near the Samuel Miller plot. Henry died in Baldwin Co. on Feb 16, 1916. Can anyone on the list tell me anything about Henry and his family: Husband Jacob Miller    Pedigree     Birth:  1791    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Marriage:     Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------Wife Caroline    Pedigree     Birth:  1810    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Marriage:     Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------Children ------------------------------------------------------------------------1.      James Miller    Pedigree     Male          Birth:  1835    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------2.      Elizabeth Miller    Pedigree     Female        Birth:  1840    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------3.      Thomas P Miller Pedigree     Male          Birth:  1841    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------4.      Virginia Miller Pedigree     Female        Birth:  1843    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------5.      Henry P Miller  Pedigree     Male          Birth:  1844    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------6.      William J Miller    Pedigree     Male          Birth:  1846    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------7.      Charles J Miller    Pedigree     Male          Birth:  1848    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:         ------------------------------------------------------------------------8.      George M Miller Pedigree     Male          Birth:  1850    Savannah, Chatham, Georgia Christening:      Death:    Burial:  Susan Marshall
