Do you know where I could see the old copies (or microfilm) of the newspapers? That is something I am really interested in doing. Also I would love to find some city directories from the 20's. Any thoughts on those. Thanks Cheryl
According to my AAA book, it is Pirate's House. I will add it to my list of places to try. Thanks to both of you for the tip. Cheryl
Would the library you are referring to be the one located on Bull St? I will check the hours of Operations for the days we will be there. Thanks for the information. Cheryl Flowers

I am new to the list. Seeking information regarding the Shelley family of Savannah. My father's Uncle Shelley was a minister (Lutheran?) who ran a seaman's Bethel during the 1930s and 1940s. We do not know his first name, but he had a son, Bernard Shelley. The family was originally from England and may have immigrated to the U>S> the 1920s or 1930s. Where would I find city directories of that period? Thanks in advance, Judy Ablett
Hi, Thank you for your most kind offer. Could you please check on the names THOMAS and TYSON / TISON... Thank you very much, Ann [email protected]
Susie, Would appreciate your checking for PIERSON and JOHNSTON in cemetery file. Thanks! Shirley
Susie, I was looking for Wyllys: Thomas and daughter Maria Wylly Dasher (wife of Solomon Dasher). I'm also looking for Michael Brown who was in Savannah at least between 4 April 1829, and 11 October 1834. In the deeds I have, he calls himself "of Savannah City" and gives 17 slaves and 100 acres of property to the my great great great grandfather and his brother(Saul and Hart Solomons) in trust for their children. Since this ancestor was born in Germany, I hope Michael is married to an unknown/unnamed sister and this might lead to their parents. Otherwise, I fail to understand why Michael Brown would leave such a gift to a friend's children. If anyone knows Michael, I'd love to hear from them. Also anyone descended from Edward W. and Samuel Solomons or one of their four sisters:Caroline, Priscilla Ann, Mary, Freelove. Carolyn Ramsay--Columbia, SC.

The Chatham-Effingham County Library may be open. The Georgia Historical Society may be open on Saturday but you need to check. The Chatham County Courthouse will probably not be open. The weekend is NOT the best time to do research. You can check on hours for all of these by searching on www.google.com for Chatham County and for Georgia Historical Society. They are all good research places. Susie, I'd appreciate any information you find for the names Lufburrow or Muller. My wife's great-grandparents were Orlando Lufburrow (d. ca 1888) and Mary Muller. Thanks, Jim DuPlessis Camden, S.C.
Savannah was divided into Parish's. St. Phillips, St. Johns, St Andrews. I have several cemeteries of the area St Andrews, cataloged. I am now working on the St Andrews Church cemetery. It will probably take me forever to do! Very large. The cemetery was began as a private burial ground for family of Thomas Spalding... I think around 1817, I will have to recheck that. The cemetery was later given to the St Andrews church, and is full of history, names. A lot of the Planters had homes in both McIntosh up to Savannah. I have already ran across several burials that list place of death as Savannah, but buried in St Andrews. Who was looking for WYLLY's??? Was it someone on this list? I have a Alexander W. WYLLY b 2/20/1801 d 7/13/1872 Confederate Veteran, and Elizabeth S. WYLLY (wife) b 3/25/1806 d 3/30/1876 Other WYLLY's also... so far. Here are a couple of others I have that caught my attention... I have also ran across a very different surname. "DeLeGal". I had never heard of this name before. It caught my eye. There is a Jane HILTON b in Lancashire England 6/6/1802 d 4/26/1866 married to Thomas HILTON b 11/17/1797... Dr. James HOLMES b Sunbury GA 11/29/1804 d 8/26/1883 Confederate Veteran. Laban M. SMITH b 9/12/1797 d 10/1/1883 & wife Lavinia T. CLARK Smith b 12/2/1819 d 3/27/1865. It will be quite some time before I finish this cemetery. If you have a name you want me to look on what I have so far, let me know. Susie
Hi Cheryl: I suggest that you visit the Savannah Historical Society library. Also, check out the old copies of the Savannah Morning News for obits, marriages, & etc. Good hunting !!! Hope you find lots of Flowers & others. Maury Flowers.........Villa Rica, Ga.
Maybe it is Pirates House, like I said, it's been a long time since I was there, I just remember how great the food was! shandi
The Georgia Historical Society across from Forsyth Park is tops.
Pirates Den? I thought it was the Pirate House.
I'm sure there are others that can tell you about where the research facalities are, I've only been there once, and that was several years ago, but I would like to tell you to try to get to the Pirates Den for dinner one night. It is on the river and has a neat history, and great food! Shandi
I will be in Savannah next weekend and would like to spend some time working on my family history. Can anyone tell me if there is a library with a research room or a historical society? Thanks Cheryl Flowers
Seeking family members of Mary Elizabeth Barbee Green, born in 1924, died Dec. 4, 1966 in Chatham County, GA. She was married to Lee Wood Green, Sr, (L.W.) and had one child, Lee Wood Green, Jr.(Woody). Believe that she grew up in the Savannah area, in a family with several siblings, moved to Orange, TX, after marriage. L.W. was a career army man. I am working on a family history for her grandson, born August 27, 1966, that she never got to meet. Charlene Patton
