    3. Do you know which years in the 1800s Savannah had a city directory? I'm interested in Stephen Hattrich, a tailor at 213 Charlton Street, & his father-in-law Charles Ludwig Schreck. On another line, I'm looking for Hart Solomons and his sons Edward W. and Samuel Solomons. Hart would have died before 1840. Another relative of this group is Michael Brown from the 1820s. I can't seem to get down to Savannah. Guess I will eventually. Carolyn Ramsay--Columbia,SC

    2. John Garst
    3. Its been a while since I've posted about this, so maybe there's somebody new on the group that might have a tip. I'd like to find living relatives of two African-Americans who were 14 years old in 1900 and lived in Savannah: Delia Green, Moses ("Cooney" or "Mose") Houston. Moses shot Delia late Christmas Eve night, 1900. She died 3-4 a.m. Christmas day. The event is immortalized in a song, "Delia" or "Delia's Gone," that is now world famous. Delia lived at 113 Ann St., but she is not listed there in the 1900 census. The family there is Adam Singleton (30), wife Fannie (25, too young to be Delia's mother). Bowen Singleton (30), 57 Farm St., wife Clara (30), had Green stepchildren up to age 12. I'm suspicious that Delia was another of Clara's children, living apart for some reason of convenience. According to the 1900 census, Jane Houston (40) lived at 123 Farm St. with 6 children, Daisy (17), Moses (14), Charley (11), Edward (8), May L. (3), and John D. (6 mo). From this large family, surely there are living descendants. Thanks. -- john garst [email protected]
