Henderson's Roster of CSA Soldiers of Georgia lists 3 candidates: G.W.Hawkins, George Hawkins, and George Washington Hawkins. The books I have access to are being re-bound and are not available at the present time.
Good morning - Elizabeth Haupt did have a daughter name Mary S. Haupt. She married Dr. Posey in 1838 and died in 1852. Mary S. Haupt in this obit is apparently the daughter of Samuel Beecroft and Elizabeth Williams Haupt, born 12 Nov. 1852 died 30 Nov. 1861. LOVERS LANE, from S.F. & W. Ry. opp. Anderson, e beyond Limits That's from the 1885 City Directory. The S.F.& W. is the rail line that bisects Savannah Southwest to Northeast. Good Morning Everyone, Our List Owner, Cliff Fiveash, called me last night and asked that I post a message to the lists. There has been much discussion on the changes on the message boards and these discussions are fine. Cliff just reminds us all to reply when we have something to say and not 'clog' up the lists with messages just saying 'I agree', etc. He also asked that I tell you of a mailing list specifically for discussing the changes. You can ask questions, discuss the changes, etc. If you are interested in joining that mailing list, simply send a message to: <[email protected]> leave the subject line blank and type in the word subscribe in the body. If you have any problems let me know. Cliff says this is a very active list right now, so you might want to consider joining the 'digest' mode...in that case change the L to D in the above address. Regards, Nancy E Parr---Hostess
Jim, Would you please look for Owen B. H. Johnston in the Savannah Home Guard or let me know how I can search. I have picture of him and another gentleman in uniforms but I (and GHS) have been unable to identify uniform except to believe it is military. Shirley

Henderson's Roster of Georgia CSA units is the best place to begin. Ms.Henderson didnt capture everyone, but she did a marvelous job of capturing the names of many. Otherwise, I will keep my eyes open for George Hawkins in the Civil War era Savannah papers. I recently found 40-50 that Henderson missed. Jim Johnson

I'm trying to learn the name of my gggrandmother. I believe she was a PADGETT. She died early-on in life, and her name seems to have slid into nowhere... I need a little help. Through the obituary of her son, Augustus Vonley Semken, I learned that several PADGETT's served as his pallbearers. The surname of PADGETT has been floating around our family for years, but noone can recall this woman's name. I'm hoping that one of these PADGETT's will lead me to the family of my gggrandmother. The PADGETT's that I found are as follows: M.C. Padgett R.L. Padgett B.T. Padgett The funeral of Augustus Vonley Semken took place in October of 1964, so these Padgetts may have lived in Savannah during the same time-frame. Much thanks in advance if you should come across any of these in your searching. Peter Nesbitt

Just so you'll know I don't make this stuff up. http://www.ph.dhr.state.ga.us/programs/vitalrecords/index.shtml On a related note, if you can associate your family with one of Savannah's older churches, most of their records (baptisms for instance) are on microfilm available through FHCs and the GHS. Catholic records are available through the Diocese and they have a database.
