Hello Ann, Your gggrandfather, James C. Tyson, is listed as having enlisted as a Private on August 9, 1861. He was elected 2d Lieutenant on Sept. 23, 1861 and retired on May 11, 1862. The "Bryan Guards" were 1st Company I, 25th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Company, Army of Tennessee, CSA, Chatham County, Georgia. This company was successively designated as 1st Co. I, and 3rd Co. D. There was also a Thomas Tyson, Private, who enlisted Aug. 9, 1861 and was discharged, over-age, Sept. 3, 1862. Was he a relative as well? Alberta
Hello, Reading your post regarding you have a Roster of the Bryan Guards. Do you have a complete listing of the men in the Bryan Guards? My gggrandfather, James C. Tyson was a 2nd Lt. Bryan Guards. Thank you, Ann M. [email protected]
I have the roster from the Bryan Guards and the muster roll from my Great Grandfather, William E. Canady, of Bryan County.
I AM THE NATION I was born July 4, 1776. The Declaration of Independence is my birth certificate. The bloodliness of the world runs in my veins, because I offered freedom to the oppressed. I am the nation! I am 250 million living souls & the ghosts of millions more who have lived, fought & died for me. I am Nathan Hale & Paul Revere. I stood at Lexington & fired the shot heard around the world. I am Washington, Jefferson & Patrick Henry. I am John Paul Jones, the Green Mountain Boys & Davy Crockett. I am Lee, Grant & Lincoln. I remember the Alamo, the Maine, Pearl Harbor. When freedom called, I answered & stayed until it was over, over there. I left my heroic dead in Flanders Fields, the rock of Corregidor, on the bleak slopes of Korea, in the steaming jungle of Vietnam & the desert sands of Kuwait. I am the Brooklyn Bridge, the wheat lands of Kansas, the granite hills of Vermont. I am the coal mines of the Virginias & Pennsylvania, the fertile lands of the West, the Golden Gate & Grand Canyon. I am Independence Hall, the Monitor, the Merrimack & the Challenger. I am big. I sprawl from the Atlantic to the Pacific... more than 3 million square miles of land throbbing with industry, more than 2 million farms. I am forest, field, mountain & desert. I am quiet villages; cities that never sleep. Look at me; see Ben Franklin walking down the streets of Philadelphia with his bread loaf under his arm; see Betsy Ross with her needle; see the lights of Christmas & hear the strains of "Auld Lang Syne" as the calendar turns. I am Babe Ruth & the World Series. I am 200,000 schools, colleges & more than 300,000 churches where my people worship God as they choose. I am a ballot dropped into a box, the roar of a crowd in a stadium, the voice of a choir in a cathedral. I am an editorial in a newspaper & a letter to Congress. I am John Glenn, Neil Armstrong & their fellow astronauts who whirl through space. I am Eli Whitney, Stephen Foster, Tom Edison, Albert Einstein & Billy Graham. I am Horace Greeley, Will Rodgers, the Wright brothers. I am George Washington Carver, Jonas Salk & Martin Luther King, Jr. I am Longfellow, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Walt Whitman & Thomas Paine. May I always possess the integrity, courage & strength to keep myself unshackled; to remain a citadel of freedom & a beacon of hope to the world. Yes, I am the nation. These are the things that I am. I was conceived in freedom. And, God willing, in freedom I shall spend the rest of my days.. ------------------------------------------ Have a safe and Happy 4th of July :-) Nancy E Parr---Hostess

I have recently received my grgrandparents' death certificates and begin to unravel my JONES threads... not as daunting a task as I'd imagined, so far... my ggf, Edward JONES appears in the 1880 census with his parents, Payton Wade & Rebecca BARROW JONES in Dawson/Terrell; I am just beginning other census searches. any kind seekers out there with resources, I'm all ears & eyes! just yesterday I found that Rebecca had filed in Bibb Co for CW widow's Pension on Payton W, who 'srv Eufaula AL Bttry "Eldridge's Bttn"' listed in the _Index to Georgia Confederate Pension Files_ I also found 2 refs for [possibly my ancestor] William B. MELL: one says 'srv Co B 8th GA, wits for E.S. LAW of Thomas Co GA'; the other says 'srv Co B 6th GA, wits for W.A. BURNEY of Crisp Co GA these are my first ancestors of my knowledge to be found as veterans of the WBTS. I'd like to know 'where' to go for more info. if Rebecca JONES filed papers, can I get copies, and what will be found in them? where do I go to learn more about Eldridge's Bttn & the Alabama co Payton was in and/or more info on the William MELLs mentioned above? I'm ready to learn! thanks to some great lists for helping to light the way... kirby in NC The only normal people are those you don't know very well. -- Oscar Wilde searching LUNAN and ANDERSON in SCT; JONES, MELL and HEARD in GA; KIRBY, GASTON and BRITTON in NJ* *and BENNETT, CHAMBERLAIN, CLAYTON, MOUNT & others...

Jim, Your Samuel Miller is on my web page of the British list of traitors along with my 4th great-grandfather, Captan John Cutler Braddock: British Traitor List J. G. (Jerry) Braddock Sr. Charleston, SC
I have spent the last few years trying to ascertain the fate of my ancestor Samuel Miller. Originally from South Carolina, he later settled at Sunbury GA, and was a mariner, merchant, and magistrate there and in Savannah. When the Revolution came along he was elected to the Rebel Georgia General Assembly, and was a member of the Supreme Executive Council of that body. He also served as an assistant commissary for the American army. After the British captured Augusta in 1779, he vanished, though one book reported that he died in 1782, and his estate was probated in 1784. Some months ago I saw "Samuel Miller' listed as a prisoner on the British prisonship Torbay or Forbay (depending on which record you believe) at Charleston SC, captured at Camden SC in 1780. Last week I found an abstract of his Will that was made 11/28/1781 and proved 1/12/1782 in SC. Today I found another record for the "Forbay' in 1781 that notes Samuel Miller is 61 years old, and implies that he is eligible for parole. The age is consistent with his estimated DOB of 1722. I am searching for someone that might be able to check for a family for me that would be buried in Bonaventure Cemetery. It appears this was a family cemetery, as I have found several members that were buried there. (Or any help pointing me in locating how many family members might be buried there.) I also need to check on a probate for two family members - I need an address to check on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much for any help. You may call, write or visit the Bonaventure Cemetery at: Bonaventure Cemetery 330 Bonaventure Rd. Savannah, GA 31404 912-651-6843 When I made a visit this summer, the staff was VERY helpful. 3. Clerk of Probate Court may be reached at: Clerk of Probate Court Records Room 133 Montgomery St. Savannah, GA 31401 912-652-7268 I do not have personal experience with this office, but have heard from one person that they are very helpful... and that they prefer written requests over telephone inquiries.
