I am researching a Mary Lee Hayes born possibly in Alabama about 1833. She was, from family folklore, a full blooded cherokee indian. She married my 3rd great grandfather in 1853 in Carroll County, Georgia. The Hayes family was supposed to have hid in the caves of Floyd County, Georgia near the Cave Springs area, when the round up of the indians was being done. She was about 4 or 5 years old from the stories that I have heard. How do I go about doing research on this individual? There are some strong indian traits that are still highly visible within the family still to this day. Please help, Cory Bowen.
