Looking for parents of Spence children: James ( b1860) Nancy E (b1862) Wilson A (b1864)George C (b6Apr1866) Martha (b1868) Mary (b1870) Living in household of Nancy Spence, born Ga, age 47, widow, 1880 Van Zandt County Census, Texas having come to Texas from Georgia. Since the census info states the father was born Ga & mother born Tennessee, Nancy Spence could be an aunt. Both parents of these children died by 1873. George Coleman Spence was raised in Emory, Texas from age 7 in 1873 to age 20 in 1886 (when he married Mary Belle Kellet/Killette from Van Zandt County) by a Dr Duffey who was also from Georgia. Dr Duffey's father was born in Ireland & could have been a McDuffie & could have been connected to the Spence families in Georgia. George was a farmer & followed law enforcement, serving as Sheriff of Rains County & living in the jail in Emory. How he housed 13 kids in that small place is beyond reason.
