Seeking information on ancestors/parents/relatives of WILLIAM H. WREN, b. 20 April 1835 in NC, moved to Heard County, GA, then Carroll County, GA, and died 13 April 1895 in Cullman Co., AL. Buried at Emeus Baptist Church Cemetery in Cullman Co. Mother possibly named JANE. Jane is probably buried in Heard Co., GA. William married MARTHA WILSON in 1854, probably in Heard County, based on her widow's pension application. (Heard courthouse burned --- no records available) Martha was daughter of JAMES WILSON and ELIZABETH TOLER. William and Martha Wren appear in 1860 and 1870 census for Heard County, and in 1880 census for Carroll County. Martha, a widow, is in 1900 census for Cullman Co. and in 1910 and 1920 census for Carroll Co., living with her daughter, Emma Temperance Wren Thompson. Martha is buried at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Carroll co. WILLIAM WREN may have a sister, MARY ANN WREN, b. abt. 1830 who may be the same Mary Ann Wren who married JOHN A. GRIFFIS in Johnston Co., NC in 1844. A John A. Griffis family (wife named Mary A.) also shows up in Heard County about the same time as William and Martha Wren. A John A. Griffis and a Jane Wren were among the founding members of Macedonia Baptist Church in Heard County. John A. Griffis was murdered in 1870 in Heard County and Mary Ann Wren Griffis may have moved to Carroll County after 1880. There is a grave of a MARY GRIFFIS at Powell's Chapel Cemetery in Carroll County that has no dates. Also buried there are HARRIETT GRIFFIS, CORA GRIFFIS PAYNE and SUSAN NOLES (see below) WILLIAM and MARTHA WREN had the following known children (some dates are approximate based on census information: 1. Muse Don't know if there's a connection or not, but found the marriage of a SARAH WREN to AMBROSE BULLARD in Campbell County, GA 11 Oct. 1841 (Campbell Co. Marriage Book B, p. 147). Many of these family members are buried at Powell's Chapel Methodist Cemetery and Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Carroll Co., and in Emeus Baptist Church Cemetery in Cullman Co., AL. Also two of Martha Wilson Wrens sisters married into the same McWhorter family as is listed above. Griffis/Muse and Wren/Muse marriages are thought to be the same family. Cannot find parents of William Wren. It appears there are no Wrens in Johnston Co., NC after 1790. Any help or leads appreciated. Also would love to meet relatives of this family. Many thanks, Judy in Newnan, GA
