    1. [GACARROL] Rev. Leroy McWhorter/Carroll Co., GA
    2. Looking for descendants/relatives of Rev. Leroy McWhorter (1797-1875) who moved from SC to GA sometime in the 1830s or 1840s and settled in Carroll County, Villa Rica area. Leroy was one of the founders and the first pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church. Married Mary Elizabeth Thomasson (Thompson, Thomson) in SC. Children: Moses Allen McWhorter (1820-1902, my link) m. Sarah Kinney. Both buried in Powell's Chapel cemetery near Villa Rica. Sarah M. McWhorter, b. 1822, m. George M. Johnston Mary Ann E. McWhorter, b. 1823 Johnson McWhorter, b. 1826 Laura McWhorter, b. 1827, m. William Thompson Thomas Benson McWhorter, b. 1829, died in Civil War. Married Martha Barr. Elizabeth McWhorter, b. 1831, m. Madison M. Bolton Newton Alexander McWhorter, b. 1833, m. Celia Eliza (Elizabeth) Wilson Dr. Franklin, b. 1836, died in Civil War. Married Nancy Ann Lucinda Wilson (sister to Celia above). Moses Allen and Sarah Kinney McWhorter's son, William Leroy McWhorter (1857-1900) married (1) Eliza J. Wren (dau. of William Wren and Martha Wilson) and raised their family in the Villa Rica/Fairplay district of Carroll County. William moved the family to Cullman, AL following Eliza's death (mid 1890s) and remarried (2) Mrs. Selie Bentley in 1897. William and Eliza's son, John Allen McWhorter (1882-1938) either never left, or came back to, Carroll County after attending school in Athens and taught school along with his uncle, Thomas Newton McWhorter. John married one of his students, Sarah Jane Payne (dau. of Joseph Joshua Payne and Louisa Elizabeth Boyd) and lived first in Shellman, GA (1908) and then Turin, in Coweta County (1910), where he also taught school. This family intermarries with the McWhorters, Boyds and Paynes A LOT. John Allen and Sarah Jane Payne McWhorter moved first to Atlanta (abt. 1915) and then to East Point, GA, in the 1920s and lived out their lives there. Both are buried in College Park Cemetery on Virginia Avenue. I have some information but need to fill in a lot of gaps on spouses, children, etc. of the early McWhorters. Also would like clues to the ancestry of Rev. Leroy. Was his father Moses? One source says it was John ???? I think he is related to Allen Marlin McWhorter who also settled in Carroll county ... but how? Will gladly share any info I have. Any help appreciated. Many thanks ... Judy
