Trying to match with this family 10 years earlier in Monroe Co., TN (taken from Monroe County Genweb page, may contain errors): 1850 Census, Monroe Co., TN, Dist 5, HH#494: WOODS, Joel, 61, m, b. TN, farmer (b. abt. 1789) WOODS, Polly, 55, f, b. TN (b. abt. 1795) WOODS, Nathan, 21, m, b. TN (b. abt. 1829) WOODS, Polly, 17, f, b. TN (b. abt. 1833) WOODS, Joel, 14, m, b. TN (b. abt. 1836) WOODS, Rachael, 12, f, b. TN (b. abt. 1838) (If this is the same Rachel, above in Carroll Co., she was a wife of younger Joel, not daughter of Joel, head of house) SELLERS, Nelly, 73, f, b. PA (b. abt. 1777) Hoping for this scenario: (Mary) Polly Ann Woods, age 17 in Monroe Co., TN (above,) married William Jasper Payne in Monroe Co., TN in 1852 (marriage record documented), and moved to Georgia, hopefully Carroll County, by 1860. (haven't found them yet in 1860). Polly's family followed. William Jasper and Mary-Polly Wood(s) Payne had six children: Elizabeth, Fleming Caleb (twin), Joseph Joshua (twin), Rachel, James, and Hannah Jane. Five were born before 1860, one abt. 1862. William Jasper fought in the Civil War with the Villa Rica Gold Diggers (Co. I, 19th Ga, Regt.) and died in 1862 in Richmond, VA. (Documented). The family stayed in the Villa Rica area. Mary "Paine" is found as a widow in 1870 Carroll with three daughters, Elizabeth, Rachel and Hannah. Fleming Caleb and James are living with the Levi Turner family and Joseph Joshua is living with the Williams family. By 1880, all children are married, some found living in Carroll County. Mary-Polly, the widow, is living with Fleming Caleb and his wife Fleman Louella (Ella) Wilson. Elizabeth married James Williams (buried at Powell's Chapel), Joseph Joshua married Louisa Boyd (buried at Powell's Chapel), Rachel married James Richards and eventually moved west, James married Mary Elizabeth Pope (buried at Macedonia), and Hannah Jane married James Maroney and moved to Alabama (buried in Etowah County). Mary-Polly Payne, widow of William J. Payne, is found on the Confederate Widows Pension Roll for Carroll County (microfilm at Ga. Archives) for 1895, 1896 and 1897. She is listed as deceased in 1898. I have no idea where she is buried, but more than likely in Carroll Co. Looking for anyone who might be related to this Wood(s) family who could help me tie the Monroe Co. Woods and Carroll Co. Woods together. May have also married into the McWhorter family of Carroll County. William Jasper and Mary-Polly Ann Wood(s) Payne were my GGgrandparents. Their son, Joseph Joshua Payne, who married Louisa Boyd, was my great-grandfather. Their daughter, Sarah Jane Payne (possibly named after Hannah Jane? and Louisa's mother, Sarah LeGuin Boyd), who married John Allen McWhorter, was my grandmother. Their daughter, Marian Payne McWhorter Fowler, is my mother. Any help greatly appreciated. It would be great also to find new cousins! Judy
